Nea and Alameda Community Learning Center is a public charter school in Alameda, CA that educates approximately 360 learners in a 6-12 program.
The Paraprofessional will work in our Special Education Department under the supervision and management of an Education Specialist and the Director of Special Education. We are seeking candidates with some experience working with children with educational disabilities in a school setting.
Essential Duties: The Paraprofessional will be responsible for providing individual and small group instructional support in a general education environment to meet a student's special education needs. The Paraprofessional will help with the maintenance of a suitable learning environment and learning experiences, preparation of appropriate materials, and support a safe and healthy environment for a student with both special and typical learning needs in the general education environment including, but not limited to classroom, recess, and the lunch area. Participate as a member of the educational team and work closely with principals, facilitators/teachers, aides and office personnel in order to coordinate the program with the normal school routine.Assist learners in academic subjects such as reading, writing and math; work effectively with learner in classrooms and assist the learner in academic, vocational and/or living skills. Implement accommodations and modifications for the learner under the supervision of the certificated staff.Tutor learners in developing interpersonal relationships with peers and adults; promote the safety of the learner by helping him/her develop self-confidence. Train and assist learners in behavior management; provide education regarding appropriate interpersonal actions; respond to discipline problems; act as a role model.Collaborate with students' case managers to assess student progress towards goals on a consistent basis. Communicate student's progress with case manager and general education teacher.Implement behavior management strategies during individual instruction in order to support student engagement. Promote the well-being of the learner by helping him/her develop a positive attitude/self-image, personal hygiene habits and an ability to cooperatively play and interact with other children and adults.Monitor the learner during classroom, outdoor or community activities.Correct homework assignments and in-class exercises, as assigned. Perform clerical duties, as assigned (examples: computer input on office software, email, typing, copying, filing, maintaining materials, equipment and supplies, answering phones, taking messages and mail distribution).Assist in maintaining records and charts for the learner (examples: attendance records, lunch count, daily charting, grades, and test scores).Attend staff and parent meetings and in-service training.Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor or classroom teacher.Accompany learner on field trips, as necessary.Take notes for learner use in general education classroom.Accompany learners to and from classrooms.
Minimum QualificationsExperience: One year of experience working with adolescent age students performing campus supervision.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent, with knowledge of algebra, supplemented by training in behavior modification techniques, or closely related fields.
This is an hourly, non-exempt position of approximately 37.5 paid hours per week. Hours for this position are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Each daily shift includes a 10-minute paid break every 4 hours. Each daily shift has a 30 minute unpaid lunch period.
