As a DSP, you will assist the people you support to direct the course of their lives. You will assist them in leading self-directed lives and work to foster a spirit of partnership with the people you support, other professionals, and the community.
A DSP will also assist the people you support to develop and maintain relationships. A DSP will advocate for the people they support for justice, inclusion, and full community participation.

Some of the things you'll do as a DSP include:
- Join and help people you support while they shop for groceries, clothes, or run errands.
- Attend community events (baseball or basketball games) and special celebrations like birthday parties.
- Ensure medications are given and complete required documentation.
- Help people you support to prepare meals, clean, eat, take care of personal hygiene, and get around at home and outside.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
- Must be 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or GED preferred, but not required
- Acceptable driving record and valid driver’s license preferred
- Acceptable background check
