JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

The Community Youth Center of San Francisco (CYC) provides the youth of our city a sense of belonging and vital tools and experiences to succeed in life. Our services include academic support and college counseling, job placement and employment training, substance use and violence prevention education, crisis intervention and mediation, leadership development, technology and computer training. Our mission is to encourage a diverse population of high-need young people to explore their full potential through academic, career, family, and community life.

Title: Victim Advocate – Coalition of Community Safety and Justice (CCSJ)

Salary: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour plus Benefits

Reports to: Program Director

Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt

POSTION DESCRIPTION:

The Victim Advocate will be under the supervision of the Program Director and responsible for assisting Asian Pacific Islander victims of crime by providing a full range of services including assistance with compensation claims, crisis intervention, court support, case status updates, community referrals, and community awareness; and performing related duties as required.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as an advocate for victims to ensure their needs are addressed within the community and criminal justice system.
  • Prepare documented correspondence, assessment reports, case records, program information and related documents to ensure program activities comply with program requirements.
  • Develop a strong liaison with law enforcement, city agencies, and community partners to provide effective service to victims.
  • Provide crisis intervention and emergency assistance by conducting immediate needs assessment and making referrals to other community resources.
  • Assist victims to complete a variety of claims documents including reimbursement of medical expenses, lost income or wages, funeral costs and job rehabilitation.
  • Confer with law enforcement officials and prosecutors on the status of the cases.
  • Advise victims of case progress and upcoming court procedures.
  • Provide emotional support and encouragement to victims and witnesses as the case moves through the criminal justice system.
  • Conduct on-site visitations with victims to assess the physical needs of the victim.
  • Participate in the development of community safety educational programs and materials for the public and service providers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred in social work, psychology, criminal

justice, or related field

  • 1-2 years of experience providing case management with Asian Pacific Islander populations.
  • Self-starter, ability to work with minimal supervision; excellent communication, community relations, networking, and public speaking skills.
  • Bilingual in Chinese is required
  • Demonstrated ability to work with Asian Pacific Islander families and without discrimination towards peoples of diverse cultures, races/ethnicity’s, socio-economic positions, ages, religions, genders, physical/mental challenges/disabilities and sexual orientations.
  • Ability and commitment to maintain confidentiality,
  • Strong communication skills, be empathic, a good problem solver, and offer non-judgmental caring
  • Understand, explain, and apply complex local, state, and federal regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team;
  • Able to travel to meet with service providers and participants;
  • Must have a flexible schedule on some evenings and weekends.
  • Proficient computer skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database management and online platform.
  • Commitment to taking regular Covid-19 health tests as required by program health and safety guidelines and/or current health directives.
  • Ability to complete Covid-19 vaccination requirement unless the individual qualifies for an exemption due to a disability or religious reason. (Exemptions must be approved by H.R.)
