What are the responsibilities and job description for the Education Specialist position at Compass Health Center?
As a Education specialist, you’ll work thoughtfully with our adolescent patients to transition students from their schools to Compass, help them execute on their school IEPs and supervised learning plans, and help re-integrate patients back into their day-to-day lives after program. This role will consist of partnering closely with the entirety of our treatment teams, including Group Therapists, Family Therapists, and Prescribers to ensure comprehensive and compassionate care. We are seeking an experienced Education Specialist who is passionate about working with children and adolescents who have a range of diagnosis in mood and anxiety disorders.
This is a full time position throughout the school year with summers off.
Introduced as our newest site in 2021, our brand new state-of-the-art facility at Oak Brook is modern, bright, and creates an inviting therapeutic space for both patients and employees alike.
What you'll do
- Work closely with team members to support the educational needs of PHP patients
- Send medical certification and release of information to home school
- Communicate with patients’ home schools
- Coordinate assignments with the patients’ home schools
- Provide parents/guardians with educational updates
- Complete educational assessment with patients to determine needs
- Create academic plans with patients
- Partner with clinical staff to develop and administer Executive Functioning group sessions
- Assist patients with executive functioning skills
- Proctor school assessments as needed
- Chart communication with parents, schools, and patients
- Attend rounds daily
- Participate in family sessions when appropriate to provide information about school progress
- Provide insurance utilization team with educational updates
- Meet with patients to prepare for return to school meetings
- Coordinate and facilitate return to school meetings and any other school meetings
- Prepare proper documentation for school when patient returns
- Update the team about transition plan and school staffing
- Meet with IOP team to communicate transition goals
- Other duties as assigned
Who you are:
- Masters level degree in the field of education
- Experience working in a public school setting with students who have emotional disabilities
- Knowledge of school systems, special education processes, IEPs, etc.
- Experience with classroom management
- Experience with students and families in crisis
- Excellent time management skills
