We are seeking a detail-oriented Accounting Clerk to support our growing Finance and Billing Department.
Position Summary:
The Medicaid Paralegal must have 3 plus years’ experience processing Medicaid applications. The Paralegals “own” their positions and are 100% responsible for their own work and caseloads working hand in hand with the department attorneys and partner. You will have extensive client contact with autonomy and independence while being part of a collaborative team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Review Medicaid eligibility and documentation to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Coordinate communication between clients, Medicaid agencies, and nursing homes to resolve issues and obtain documentation necessary for application submissions.
- Track and maintain case files, ensuring all documents are organized, up-to-date, and compliant with firm and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with attorneys to strategize legal approaches to optimize the application process and resolve issues for clients.
- Provide clients with regular updates regarding the status of their Medicaid application and answer questions related to their cases.
- Handle confidential client information with the highest level of professionalism and integrity.
- Assist attorneys with Medicaid eligibility determinations and other elder care law matters as needed.
- Prepare Medicaid Applications (home care and institutional), including financial accounting and asset tracking, representation before the Department of Social Services, assistance with Fair Hearings, and establishment of pooled income trusts.
- Analyze financial records for verification of income, identification of additional accounts, analysis of gifting or theft.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or Paralegal Certification (ABA-approved preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a paralegal, with at least 3 years focused on Medicaid required.
- In-depth knowledge of Medicaid regulations, policies, and procedures, especially as they pertain to eligibility, application submission, and post submission issues.
- Experience with Medicaid planning and estate planning preferred.
- Familiarity with the Medicaid software and case management systems.
- Knowledge of local and state-specific Medicaid rules and procedures preferred.
- Proven experience managing complex cases, with strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex legal concepts to clients and non-legal professionals.
- Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively in a team environment.
- Compassionate, client-focused, and empathetic attitude when dealing with sensitive matters related to elder care.
- Spanish-speaking or bilingual skills are a plus.
