General Description:

 

Strengthening Families is a research based, evidenced-informed approach to practice that is central to the community-based emphasis of the DHS Improving Outcomes to Children (IOC).  The model uses community programs to enhance protective factors for children and families. The Strengthening Families Coordinator, an essential partner in the Community Umbrella Agency (CUA) team, encourages participants to make “small but significant change" that supports resilience, access to services, connection, parental knowledge, and social/emotional capacity. The Strengthening Families Coordinator also organizes and facilitates “Parent Cafés" that provide an opportunity for caregivers of all types with peer education and support.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Function as part of the larger CUA team responsible for achieving the target goals of improving safety, permanency, and well-being of children, youth, and families.  
  • Act as the coordinator of Parent Cafes.
  • Facilitate Parent Cafes and other support groups.
  • Develop and conduct Strengthening Families orientations and workshops for the CUA and the community.
  • Train Facilitators and Parent Cafe Hosts.
  • Work with the Community Liaison in establishing community connections.
  • Attend Court Hearings as needed.
  • Document activity on prescribed report forms

Qualifications


TRAINING & SUPERVISORY and ADMINISTRATIVE REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Participate in weekly or bi-weekly supervision sessions and team meetings on site at Concilio.
  • Participate in appropriate training as identified and/or recommended.
  • Maintain high quality client documentation and client files.
  • Submission of monthly narrative and statistical reports based on services rendered as required by funder and agency.

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

 

  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field including but not limited to sociology, psychology, counseling, criminal justice, education, divinity, or public health administration. 
    • Candidates with a degree in an unrelated field require a minimum of two years’ experience working in child, youth, and family serving systems.
    • Waivers of the above may be requested on a case-by-case basis with appropriate documentation and rationale. 
  • One year experience working in child, youth and family serving systems.
  • Proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Familiarity with the dynamics of diverse populations in low-income areas.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to set priorities in critical situations.
  • Culturally sensitive to the needs and diversities of multi-cultural communities.
  • Knowledge of community resources.
  • Practices good customer service skills in all working relationships.
  • Experience facilitating public meetings, and other public forums.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, respectful, and courteous nature.
  • Knowledge of social services, child welfare and family systems services.
  • Able to work independently, demonstrating good judgment and prioritizing.
  • Must be accurate and detail oriented.
  • Ability to attend evening and weekend community events and meetings.
  • Maintain a high degree of discretion dealing with confidential information.

 

Organizational Accountability & Relationships:

 

  • Reports directly to the Director of Community & Prevention  
  • Represents Concilio at the Hispanic Fiesta, Puerto Rican Day Parade and other agency wide events as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Must be able to travel to attend court appointments, meetings, trainings and clients.
