What are the responsibilities and job description for the CHIEF BRAND OFFICER position at Connecticut Sun?

This position will be responsible for bringing the CT Sun brand to life and shaping the messaging, creativity and overall brand presence.  This individual will work to develop comprehensive cross-channel marketing campaigns for all core revenue verticals, drive awareness of team identity, align partnerships with brand initiatives, and creating engaging story lines for public relations efforts.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities includes but not limited to :

  • Provide day-to-day strategic leadership, management and support of department leaders who head each respective function, while facilitating cross departmental collaboration throughout the organization
  • Develop short and long-term marketing vision and direction and lead the team to deliver on a multi-faceted marketing and brand strategy focused on enhancing revenue
  • Define and maintain strong team brand identity ensuring consistency across all marketing / advertising materials and platforms.
  • Oversee the strategy of all agency and internal driven marketing, social, and public relations campaigns built to reach target demographics including but not limited to digital, SEO / SEM, organic and paid social media, OOH, OTT, email, mobile app, SMS channels.
  • Work closely with sales leadership to develop strategies and campaigns to maximize corporate partnership and ticket sales revenues.
  • Create unique and engaging marketing campaigns for ancillary promotions including merchandise, all-star bids, player and team end of season awards.
  • Oversee and lead the integration of social media campaigns that are metric-based and targeted for growing the team following – including but not limited to ideation of long-form content, influencer strategy and viral-worthy opportunities.
  • Ascertain emerging marketing technologies to leverage competitive advantages across tools and platforms.
  • Develop and manage the fiscal marketing budget and allocate funds effectively across prioritized initiatives.
  • Supports the integration of PR in connection with branding strategy
  • Conduct market research to understand fan behavior and identify trends to make informed marketing decisions.
  • Develop KPIs relevant to all departments and team members reporting up to CBO.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Oversee social media strategies to grow audience.
  • Calculates spend and return on investment for all campaigns.
  • Maintain all league and property compliance requirements for industry standards.
  • Negotiate contracts for all agency and technology agreements.
  • Minimum Education and Qualifications :

  • Master’s degree in business administration, communications or sports marketing
  • 10 years of experience working in a marketing or sports marketing field
  • Experience in a managing diverse, integrated marketing team
  • Strong critical thinking and analysis capabilities.
  • Exceptional leadership and culture-building capabilities
  • Strong, clear written and verbal communication skills; ability to present at all levels
  • Sharp attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
  • Excellent organizational and multi-tasking skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and Outlook
  • In lieu of a degree and previously mentioned experience, 15 years of experience in social media, communications, or sports marketing will be considered.
  • Physical Demands and Work Environment :

  • Office work environment
  • Overnight travel may be required
  • Flexible schedule to include weekends, evenings, and some holidays to meet business needs
