Job Summary
This position increases the availability of nutritious foods through the Food Recovery Program and assists with daily operations of the food pantry and soup kitchen.
Education & Experience:
- High School diploma, or equivalent, and 1 year experience in nutrition, education and/or customer service
- Additional years of experience can be considered in place of educational requirement
Other Requirements & Skills:
Must have valid driver’s license, insurability, and reliable transportation.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability and motivation to work independently and without direct supervision as well as in a team and with the general public.
- Openness to learning new skills and technology as necessary; must participate in training as required.
- Must be, or willing to be, certified in ServSafe or other recognized certification.
- Understanding of Trauma Informed Care and the ability to operate within an empathic, person-centered framework.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide food resources to the Emergency Food Relief Organizations within Cattaraugus County, to build their capacity to deliver safe, nutritious foods and to educate customers around nutritious choices.
- Assist in all operations, development, and implementation of the Gleaning, Prepared Food Recovery, and Perishable Food Recovery Program
- Maintain accurate logs of all gleaned foods which indicate name, poundage, provider, date of recovery/pick-up, date of distribution, and recipient of recovered food.
- Maintain accurate logs and follow approved practice for all prepared and perishable food recovered by maintaining logs of recovered food to include source and date of pick-up, and/or labeling of food items with donor’s name/ingredients, and/or serve by date, and will maintain temperature flow log for pick-up and drop-off of all food.
- Ensure approved practice of the flow of food through purchasing, receiving, and storage of all food in order to keep items safe and preserve their quality.
- Assist with daily operations of the food pantry including stocking shelves, rotating foods, customer service, cleaning pantry, etc.
- Assist with the daily operations of the soup kitchen including preparation, serving, and cleanup of the kitchen and dining area.
- Provide basic reception and intake services in support of the agency to the general public, clients and customers.
- Collaborate with the Nutrition Team to ensure creative approaches to enhancing food supplies, asset development, and alternative programming to fill gaps in the nutrition continuum of care.
- Responsible for complying with all funding source regulations, for creating a safe environment, and to report any unsafe situations to the immediate supervisor.
- Demonstrates, promotes, and practices CCA’s mission and values.
- Must be enthusiastic about promoting the mission of CCA; be willing to work towards the good of the entire agency, and to act as an ambassador of CCA throughout the community.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
