What are the responsibilities and job description for the Victim Specialist I: St. Bonaventure University position at Connecting Communities in Action?
Job Summary:
As a Victim Service team member reporting to the Victim Service Program Director and Prevention Education and Outreach Coordinator, this position will assist with victim service response needs of the Saint Bonaventure University campus, students, faculty, and staff.
Education & Experience:
- Associate degree in Human Services, or a related field; plus, relevant experience in direct client case work with children and families.
- Must possess or obtain certification in the Jacquelyn C. Campbell Danger Assessment within 90 days of employment with CCA.
- Must possess or obtain NYS Dept. of Health Rape Crisis Counselor Certification within 90 days of employment with CCA.
- Must successfully complete the mandatory 40-hour Victim Services Training and must document agency facilitated and on-going in-service trainings (related to victimization) for 10 additional hours per year.
- Must possess an awareness of the intersectionality of culture and poverty, as well as Acute, Chronic and Complex trauma.
- Must have a working knowledge of the Victim Services Division and the criminal justice system and issues and obstacles facing all victims of crime, sexual abuse, and family violence.
- Familiarity and knowledge of local service organizations, helping agencies and criminal justice system preferred.
- Must be familiar with Saint Bonaventure University and possess an openness to engage with the campus community as well as, provide services to survivors in partnership with Saint Bonaventure officials, faculty, staff, and students.
- Ability and motivation to work independently and without direct supervision as well as in a team and with the public.
Other Requirements & Skills:
- Must have valid driver’s license, insurability, and reliable transportation.
- Minimum personal auto coverage of 100,000 bodily per person/300,000 per accident/ 100,000 property
- Flexible work schedule and ability to occasionally work non-traditional work schedule to best meet the needs of clients.
- Ability to co-located between CCA’s main office located at 25 Jefferson Street, Salamanca NY, 14779 and Saint Bonaventure University, located at 3261 W State St, St Bonaventure, NY 14778.
- Ability and willingness to provide mobile services and advocate for client throughout the community.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist and support Saint Bonaventure prevention programming efforts in coordination with Saint Bonaventure University as well as, partner organizations, and other service providers as needed.
- Assist the Prevention Education and Outreach Coordinator in working with Saint Bonaventure University to maintain and execute collaborative partnership and services agreements outlined in current and future memorandums of understanding and business or service affiliations.
- Assist with Victim Service and Saint Bonaventure faculty/Staff/Student development related to issues of interpersonal, sexual violence, cultural responsiveness and advocacy.
- Work directly with any faculty, staff or student survivor of crime by providing advocacy, accompaniment, and other preparative and supportive assistance as needed though the Saint Bonaventure University conduct process.
- Work directly with survivors of crime, providing advocacy, court preparation and accompaniment, transportation, crime victim compensation assistance, etc as needed.
- Assist in preparing and disseminating materials and primary prevention programming about awareness of victimization and services available to Saint Bonaventure faculty, staff and students.
- Regularly participate in all Coordinated Community Response Team planning, meetings, events, trainings, and participate technical training institutes as requested
- Participate in Victim Service Division meetings, case/team reviews, trainings and skills development as required to improve the quality of the Victim Services’ Division.
- Maintain clear, accurate and timely documentation in accordance with CCA and Saint Bonaventure University data collection and reporting requirements, including campus specific reports as required by state and federal law.
- Responsible to comply with all funding source regulations, for creating a safe environment, and to report any safety concerns to the immediate supervisor.
- Must be enthusiastic about promoting and abiding by the mission of CCA, Saint Bonaventure University and the Coordinated Community Response Team.
- Must be enthusiastic about and willing to work towards the good of the Community Action Inc., and to act as an ambassador of CCA throughout the community.
