JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Career Pathways Manager
Reports to: Chief Program Officer
Locations: Mandatory onsite management at all three locations weekly, including Cotati, Novato and San Rafael. Hybrid schedule offered after 90 days.
Employment Status: Exempt from wage and hour laws
Work Schedule: M-F, 8:30am-5:00pm. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
SUMMARY
Conservation Corps North Bay's (CCNB) Career Pathways department provides support to all corpsmembers so that they can succeed at CCNB and transition into their chosen career. Career Pathways staff lead career preparation workshops, guide each corpsmember in developing an individualized career and educational plan, connect corpsmembers to community resources, facilitate job placements when corpsmembers exit the program, and support corpsmember recruitment efforts.
Under the supervision of the Chief Program Officer, the Career Pathways Manager manages staff and oversees implementation of the Career Pathways Program at CCNB's Marin and Sonoma County sites. As the leader of one of CCNB's three programming departments, the Career Pathways Manager develops and oversees career preparation programs, connections to community resources, and job placement assistance. They are actively involved in the Marin and Sonoma communities, promoting CCNB's programs and building partnerships that support department activities. They are also responsible for managing a variety of grants and ensuring compliance with requirements for certification. In addition, the Career Pathways Manager also plays an active role on CCNB's management team and oversees the coaching and training of Career Pathways staff to ensure corpsmembers successfully complete CCNB's job training program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Department and Program Management
- Create strategies and workplans for all Career Pathways department activities
- Manage the successful implementation of all Career Pathways department activities
- Manage, train, and oversee Career Pathways staff, including directly supervising the Career Pathways Coordinators in both Marin and Sonoma Counties
- Manage and track department budgets to ensure revenues and expenses are in line with yearly goals and projections. Collaborate with colleagues to resolve issues that arise.
- Actively collaborate as a member of the management team to understand programming needs and undertake a variety of special projects that support organizational goals
- Create written materials for internal and external communications
- Collaborate with the Development and Communications team in fund development efforts
- Initiate and oversee implementation of periodic new projects or committees focused on additional programming, education, supportive services, or recruitment activities
- Ensure all CCNB policies and procedures are followed
Grants Management and Reporting
- Effectively manage Career Pathway's grants and contracts. Track and control expenses, serve as a liaison to funders, coordinate with other members of the management team to administer grants, and ensure all contract obligations and program outcome goals are met.
- Coordinate with staff from across the organization to gather, organize, synthesize, and present information required for grant reports
- Collaborate with the Development and Communications team to prepare grant applications
Compliance
- Ensure corpsmember records are maintained correctly and efficiently to achieve program outcomes, grant requirements, and corps certification
- Collaborate with Evaluations staff to update forms and data tracking processes to meet funding and certification requirements. Monitor the department's progress toward internal and external goals, and take actions as needed to ensure goals are met. Assist in analyzing and summarizing results for proper reporting.
Career Preparation Program
- Build and maintain relationships with educational institutions and training providers to create and facilitate educational and training opportunities for corpsmembers
- Design, manage, and oversee the implementation of career preparation programs for all CCNB corpsmembers, including group workshops, internal and external trainings, and individualized coaching and support
- Guide staff teams in creating and implementing career preparation workshops that meet certification requirements and prepare corpsmembers to enter the workforce. Develop appropriate curriculum to introduce corpsmembers to career options, teach successful workplace readiness, and enhance job search skills.
- Attend career preparation workshops each week to ensure quality instruction
- Build and maintain relationships with community service providers to maintain a network of support service referrals for barriers such as childcare, housing, and transportation
- Manage and oversee CCNB's LevelUp program for corpsmember development
- Manage the implementation of policies related to corpsmember performance issues and extension requests
- Work with teachers and administrators from John Muir Charter School (CCNB's onsite high school) to assist student corpsmembers in tracking their progress towards graduation
- As needed, collaborate with John Muir Charter School management to resolve issues with students and personnel.
Job Placements
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with local employers, with the goals of understanding their staffing needs, being seen as a partner for recruitment, and placing corpsmembers into jobs
- When job opportunities arise, lead Career Pathways staff members in identifying appropriate corpsmembers, connecting them with employers, and supporting their applications
- Organize events that prepare corpsmembers for the job application process, such as career panels, career fairs, and visits with local employers
Corpsmember Recruitment and Orientation
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with educational institutions, supportive services agencies, community groups, and other potential sources of corpsmember applicants. Promote CCNB's program with the goal of building pipelines of corpsmember applicants.
- Create and manage work plans for Career Pathways staff members to support corpsmember recruitment goals
- Collaborate with the Development and Communications department to create and update marketing and outreach materials used in corpsmember recruitment
- Acts as CCNB's overall lead for the successful design and implementation of corpsmember orientation. Responsible for collaborating with managers, committees, and staff from other departments to design a quality orientation experience that prepares corpsmembers for success during their tenure with CCNB.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

- Bachelor's degree in environmental studies, education, social work, public policy, education, or a related field; or equivalent professional experience
- At least three years supervisory experience
- At least two years experience managing grants
- Ability to build collaborative working relationships with a wide variety of program stakeholders
- Knowledge of workforce development programs and practices
- Experience in career development, including supportive services and job placement assistance for individuals with barriers to employment
- Experience supervising or mentoring young adults from a variety of backgrounds, especially those experiencing social, economic, and educational disadvantages
- Familiarity with local education institutions, training programs, and community services
- Experience in creating educational modules and lessons
- Experience in community outreach
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills. Experience with Microsoft Office suite, especially Word and Excel. Prior experience using Salesforce a plus.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Excellent prioritization, organizational and administrative skills; attention to detail in managing recordkeeping and tracking outcomes
- Ability to understand and communicate in Spanish is a plus
- Must have a valid CA driver's license with a clean DMV record, and the ability to pass fingerprint clearance

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. The employee is required to walk, use hands to operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Perform simple grasping and fine manipulation. There are normal office working conditions and associated physical demands. For example, on a continuous basis, sit at a desk using a computer and in meetings for long periods of time. Intermittently twist to reach equipment surrounding desk, as well as repetitive finger movements with office and computer machinery. May be expected to lift and move containers weighing up to 25 lbs.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The starting salary range for this position is $80,000.00 Annually. This is a full-time position which is eligible for a benefits package including employer sponsored Medical, Dental, Vision and Chiropractic care for the employee (dependents will be out of pocket), 403(b) plan with an employer match after one year of service, and a generous PTO plan with accruals starting at 18 days per year with an additional 11 paid holidays.
