Vandolah Power Company seeks a skilled ICE (Instrumentation, Controls, & Electrical) Technician to maintain and support operations at our 680-megawatt (MW) peaking power plant in Wauchula, Hardee County, Florida. Candidates will be placed in a single-skill or multi-skilled role based on experience, with a preference for expertise in gas turbine operations, particularly with GE 7FA turbines and GE Mark VIe control systems. The role ensures operational efficiency, unit reliability, and compliance with safety and environmental standards in a team-oriented, multi-disciplinary environment.
Vandolah Power Company operates a state-of-the-art peaking power plant in Wauchula, Florida, delivering reliable electricity to meet peak demand in Central Florida. The facility features four dual-fuel combustion turbine generating units, primarily powered by natural gas sourced from Florida Gas Transmission (FGT) and TECO People's Gas (PGS), with distillate fuel oil as a backup fuel.
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Test, calibrate, program, troubleshoot electrical, instrumentation, and control system components using schematics, vendor manuals, and advanced test equipment.
- Operational Efficiency: Maintain plant reliability and compliance with safety and environmental standards.
- Documentation: Record accurate, detailed work history for reporting, data entry, and archiving.
- Process Improvement: Recommend equipment or techniques to enhance plant and maintenance department reliability and efficiency.
- Procedure Development: Assist in developing and implementing standard operating procedures and preventive maintenance protocols; train peers as needed.
- Safety & Compliance: Adhere to professional, environmentally conscious, and safe work practices; participate in safety programs to minimize injury and property loss.
- Vehicle Operation: Safely operate company vehicles as required.
- Work Schedule: Participate in a call-out program, including scheduled and unscheduled night/weekend assignments, and work in adverse conditions (e.g., rain, heat, cold).
- Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as directed by supervision.
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field, or equivalent technical/military training, preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of direct gas turbine operations and maintenance experience preferred.
- Experience with GE 7FA combustion turbines and GE Mark VIe control systems are highly desirable.
- Proficient in testing, troubleshooting, installing, and maintaining electrical equipment (e.g., switchgear, motors, breakers, plant wiring) and sophisticated I&C systems.
- Familiar with technical maintenance manuals and modern gas turbine requirements.
- Skilled in using high-tech electronic test equipment and precision instruments.
- Strong communication, planning, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and collaborate effectively with team members.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer-based productivity tools.

All plant employees must always work safely. Working at the power plant may require:
- Working in varied outdoor environments such as all-weather conditions, all noise levels, hazardous conditions, and on the full range of outdoor work surfaces.
- The frequent use of protective equipment (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.) may be required. Work with hazardous materials may also be required.
- Working in proximity to high voltages and current with proper training and equipment, operating heavy equipment and rolling stock and entering confined spaces or hazardous environments may be required while often being exposed to equipment and machinery noises.
- Duties require walking, standing for extended periods of time, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders and stairs, operation of large valves and other tasks requiring up to 50 lbs. of pulling or turning force, and lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
- Exposure to extreme heat and cold.
- Eye and hand coordination are required to operate switches, pushbuttons, and other controls.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust and focus.
- All candidates will participate in the post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record, as this position requires occasional travel for company business. Candidates should be comfortable operating a vehicle as part of their job responsibilities and must meet any applicable company and insurance requirements.
