Summary
The Senior Principal Security Engineer is responsible for making decisions and providing technical leadership on projects to expand business capabilities while increasing the security posture of Consumers Energy. Furthermore, the Senior Principal Security Engineer will consult on the design, development, integration, and analysis of platforms, while working with systems, hardware, software, and variety of technical and non-technical teams to meet the business objectives in a secure manner. The Senior Principal Security Engineer is a recognized as an expert within the organization, both within and beyond their own function. This position will also provide direction on roadmaps and architecture standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Installation and configuration of security related platforms including any version upgrades, changes, and patching, including deploying and managing platform, application or server resources and related infrastructure
- Assisting Business Partners on Tier 2/3 issues
- Managing operational issues and incidents through completion
- Managing relationships with Business Partners to facilitate integration into single or multiple security domains such as automation, asset security, security architecture and engineering, identity and access management, security assessment and testing, and security operations.
- Works with Business partners and provides the interpretation of the security standards. This role will also assist in working through various requirements questionnaire with business partners to ensure programs/applications are properly secured by meeting the appropriate standards (Encryption, Authentication, etc) The Senior Principal Engineer will be responsible for Approval of designs along with communicating any Security Risks with Leadership.
- Selects and executes the appropriate standard practices, procedures, and workflow for team activities, such as daily operating reviews, technical Implementations, standards development, CE Way activities to ensure any gaps noted in processes are shared with the team for remediation. This role is also responsible for approving changes for any process improvements within Engineering.
- Engage, lead, and/or mentor other Security employees, especially associate engineers and career engineers.
- Researches, designs, and approves new security technologies and architectures* Conducts Security reviews and approvals to ensure designs are meeting the applicable security standards along with addressing regulatory requirements.
- Build a strong relationship with internal and external teams by discussing emergent/new technology roll outs, participating in technical review meetings that include cross-functional teams both highly technical and non-technical personnel.
- Develops standards and executes practices, procedures and workflow for team metrics and activities. Provides broad architectures decisions to business partners and security engineers.
- Participates in, and at times, responsible for, strategic decision-making with respect to security controls. Can effectively weight opposing advantages while balancing organization risk appetite.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Ability to learn and adapt new concepts to build a professional body of knowledge.
- Working knowledge of computer network concepts.
- Knowledge of Information Technology (IT) or Network systems and designs.
- Awareness of security industry concepts, best practices, and trends.
- High degree of integrity and confidentiality, as well as ability to adhere to company policies and best practices.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
Work and Education Requirements
- Bachelors Degree Required in Cyber Security, Computer Science or Information Technology. In lieu of a Bachelor's Degree, candidate must have 8 years of experience directly related to the position.
- 10 years of experience, including in a production or academic setting, with cyber security and/or computer networks
Perferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree inCyber Security, Computer Science or Information Technology.
- GIAC Certification
- CISSP Certification
