The Business Analytics Consulting Director plays a critical role in bridging the technical expertise of the data team with the operational expertise of such areas as Underwriting, Claims, Finance, etc… They help ensure the deep insights generated through sophisticated analytics translate into impact at scale within an organization. JOB DESCRIPTION: Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Consults with business leaders on identifying and prioritizing their business problems, based on which will create the highest value when solved. Conveys these business goals to the data professionals who will create the models and solutions. Ensures solutions produce insights the business can interpret and execute on, and ultimately, communicates the benefits of these insights to business users to drive adoption. Interprets model results and identifies potential model errors, such as overfitting. Directs analytics initiatives from ideation through production and adoption. Identifies opportunities to leverage new data solutions in support of analytics and reporting objectives. Collaborates with senior leadership, technical staff and subject matter advisors to understand business needs/issues, troubleshoot problems, conduct root cause analysis and develop cost effective resolutions for data anomalies. Extracts and prepares data for reporting use. Reporting Relationship Typically Reports to AVP or above Skills, Knowledge & Abilities Robust knowledge of core functions of an insurance company, general insurance and statistical, financial, and economic concepts, which may include a specialty area of the business Understands the key operational metrics of the business and their impact on profit and loss, revenue, customer retention, etc.. Strong interpersonal, communication, storytelling, and presentation skills. Effectively interacts with all levels of CNA’s internal and external business partners. Advanced analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills to effectively resolve complex situations and issues. Advanced computing skills including, but not limited to, SQL (GCP Big Query a plus), Looker, Alteryx, Excel, etc. Solid project management, organization and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple projects effectively and lead teams. An entrepreneurial mind-set. High learning agility & early adopter. Embody enthusiasm, commitment, and business savvy to navigate the many technical, political, and organizational roadblocks that may emerge. Awareness of models available (e.g., deep learning versus logistic regression) and to what business problems they can be applied. Has an understanding of the life cycle of an analytics initiative and the common pitfalls. Education & Experience Master’s degree or equivalent work experience. Typically a minimum of eight years of related work experience. One or more data, insurance or functional certifications such as IIA, DMIP, LIMA, AIDM, CIDM, or CPA helpful but not required.
