Job Summary
The Assistant Teacher/Caregiver is responsible for the daily supervision of the classroom under the direction of the lead teacher. They assist with the daily program, activities and preparation of the classroom and prepare the daily program under the direction of the group teacher. They assist in preparing the learning environment, setting up interest centers, and preparing needed materials and supplies.
Essential Functions
- Assists in supervision of the playground to ensure the safety of children. Supervises the classroom when the teacher is out of the room.
- Maintains a professional attitude and loyalty to the school at all times. Treat all children with dignity and respect.
- Performs general housekeeping tasks as per policy. Assists the teacher as requested.
- Attends all required staff meetings and recommended training programs and conferences.
- Completes 8 hours yearly of staff development as required by the Manual of Requirements for Child Care Centers 10:122-4.7.
- Maintains current CPR/First Aid certificate.
Experience Required
- Must have previous working experience with infants and young children.
- Must have knowledge of appropriate developmental skills for children ages 0–6 years.
- Previous classroom management experience is preferred.
- Demonstrate knowledge of licensing requirements, NAEYC Accreditation criteria and developmentally appropriate practice in daily interactions in the classroom.

Education Requirements
- High school graduate or GED recipient
- Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood or Child Development preferred
License/Certification Requirements
- Current CPR/First Aid certification
