CooperDouglas has partnered with a private equity-backed freight technology company in Los Angeles for their newly created Vice President of Finance. This VP of Finance will drive financial strategy, investor reporting, and operational planning during a period of accelerated national scale. The business combines physical infrastructure and proprietary technology financial strategy and support rapid growth. This is a hands-on, high-impact leadership role reporting directly to the CEO.
This is a critical executive role reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer. The ideal candidate will bring deep experience scaling high-growth businesses from Series A through Series C, a track record of building finance infrastructure in dynamic environments, and the ability to partner directly with private equity sponsors on strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of financial planning and analysis, including budgeting, forecasting, and multi-year modeling to support board and investor expectations
- Build and maintain detailed operating and unit economic models that enable real-time business insights and inform strategic decisions
- Partner directly with PE sponsors, board members, and the executive team on capital allocation, fundraising strategy, and financial governance
- Manage all aspects of investor reporting, including board decks, KPI dashboards, fundraising materials, and monthly performance packages
- Play a central role in future financing rounds and potential transaction readiness, including M&A due diligence and integration
- Guide margin strategy, pricing optimization, and spending discipline across functions and cost centers
- Develop and scale a first-in-class FP&A function, recruiting and mentoring a high-performing finance team
- Collaborate with the Controller and accounting leadership to ensure accurate reporting, internal controls, and audit readiness
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance or related field
- 7–10 years of progressive finance experience, including recent leadership in a venture or PE-backed business, preferably at the Series A-C stage
- Proven ability to act as a strategic thought partner to founders and private equity sponsors in high-growth or capital-intensive environments
- Prior ownership of board-level communications, fundraising strategy, and performance reporting in a high-velocity startup or emerging growth company
- Strong understanding of SaaS, marketplace, or transaction-based business models, with the ability to drive insights from customer behavior and margin data
- A professional background in freight or supply chain technology is a huge plus
- Familiarity with the dynamics of private capital environments, including investor preferences, capital structure, and value creation metrics
- Comfortable navigating ambiguity and building scalable finance infrastructure in a high-growth, operationally complex setting
Location: Los Angeles (North of DTLA)
Compensation range $225,000 to $275,000 bonus LTI
