Copper River EMS Council, Inc. (CREMS) is a 501(c)(3) State Certified Ambulance service that has operated in the rural Copper River region for more than 40 years.
The Copper River service area covers many small communities and villages spread across 300 miles of sparsely populated 2-lane highways including stretches of the Glenn Hwy, Richardson Hwy, Tok Cut-Off, and Edgerton Hwy.
The entire service area averages only one 911 EMS dispatch every 32 hours. However, due to the fact that the nearest hospital ER is more than 140 miles away, most patients are transferred to a medevac service with patient encounters averaging 2-4 hours each.
Essential Job Functions:
MUST be willing to work alongside local volunteer responders of all levels and with a wide range of experience.
Relief medics needed for 24/7 on-call shifts, 8am shift change (time is flexible).
- Shifts currently available August 6 - August 12 and September 3 - September 16. Additional shifts and/or different days may be available through September 30.
Housing is provided free of charge.
Emergency Duties
· Assist with the coordination of local resources at time of dispatch and collaborate with CREMS volunteers and other emergency response agencies.
· Conduct patient assessments to determine and perform appropriate basic and/or advanced life support care for injured or sick persons based on CREMS medical protocols and the established standards of care.
· Communicate with dispatch by radio, communicate with medevac and ground intercept services by mobile phone, and communicate with volunteers and other responders by apps, radio, and phone.
· Accurately and thoroughly document all patient care in ePCR software (ImageTrend).
· Clean all equipment, restock and prepare the ambulance for service after each patient transport.

· Possess a caring and compassionate attitude, displaying the highest level of respect and professionalism for all patients, affiliated healthcare workers, co-workers, volunteers and management.
· Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
· Ability to remain composed in difficult and stressful situations that require emergency action, with the ability to make sound decisions promptly under emergency conditions.
· Ability to use radio communications, computers and related PCR reporting software.
· Must work well in a team environment.
· Have proficient working knowledge of emergency medical care at respective level.
· Be self-driven with a passion to provide quality care.
· Maintain patient privacy standards.
· Provide patient care according to protocols and safety requirements.
· Take responsibility for scene safety and management.
· Work collaboratively and in a professional manner with other response agencies.
Minimum Qualifications
Persons applying for this position must have the following:
· High school diploma or possess a GED equivalent.
· (preferred) Must be 25 years of age at time of application.
· (preferred) Minimum 2 years of verified experience leading an ALS 911 ambulance crew.
· Must hold a valid driver’s license.
· Current State of Alaska EMT-II, III, AEMT, or Paramedic.
· Current AK approved BLS certification (required). ACLS & PALS certification (preferred).
· Obtain approval from Medical Director to practice medicine within the proper scope.
