What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Assistant position at Copper Valley Telecom?
Copper Valley Telecom is currently seeking an Accounting Assistant to join our team! This position may be responsible for any of the following: processing accounts payable, preparing and processing payroll, maintaining the general ledgers, maintaining complete and accurate work orders, and reconciling and preparing inventory records and journal entries.
Additionally this position will
- Process accounts payable transactions in accordance with schedules and vendor terms. Enter transactions into computer system and print checks. Maintain accounts payable records and complete required reports and registers
- Prepare and process payroll checks. Update payroll files for status changes, pay rate changes, benefit or withholding changes. Maintain payroll records and prepare required payroll reports in accordance with regulations and established practices.
- Maintain General Ledger by preparing and posting journal entries, reconciling ledgers, reviewing accounts for accuracy, and ensuring supporting information is attached to provide an audit train. Prepare internal financial statements and various regulatory and industry reports.
- Maintain complete and accurate Work Order records. Close work orders, allocate costs, prepare journal entries, and reconcile accounts.
- Maintain complete and accurate Continuing Property Records (CPR). Reconcile physical inventories to perpetual inventory records. Prepare reconciliation journal entries.
- Process carrier access bills by polling tolls from switching equipment; analyze minutes and revenue information; maintain inventory of special access circuits; maintaining detailed history of access minutes, circuits and amounts billed; preparing various reports; and ensuring current tariffs are applied to all billings
- Perform clerical and commercial duties including preparing various financial schedules and studies as assigned.

Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities
Knowledge of mainframe and PC computers. Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), federal and state payroll tax regulation, FCC Part 32 Uniform System of Accounts and RUS accounting standards. Skill in comprehending and accurately accounting for many sophisticated telephone and computer technologies. Skill in operating Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and Explorer. Ability to perform six digit addition, subtraction, multiplication and division calculations at average or better speed. Ability to communicate with customers, employees, and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple work assignments, and ability to work in a fast paced environment with frequent interruptions.
Education and Experience
Accounting Assistant I:
High School diploma, or equivalent, with basic knowledge of accounting, including general ledger, payroll, and accounts payable.
Accounting Assistant II:
Associate degree in accounting and three years of experience in telephony accounting; or five years of experience in telephony accounting without a degree; or eight years of experience in non-telephony accounting.
Accounting Assistant III:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting and five years of experience in telephony accounting or eight years of experience in telephony accounting without a degree.

This is an IBEW 1547 Union represented position (need not be a current member to apply) and requires satisfactory results of a background check and drug screen (excluding marijuana). Hourly wage for an Accounting Assistant I is $22.62 per hour.
