What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Coordinator position at Copperas Cove ISD?
- Collaborate with campus administration & Campus Instructional Coordinators to provide a campus environment conducive to a successful continuum of specially designed instruction (SDI).
- Monitor campus compliance through data analysis. Use data from district, state and federal sources to guide decision making.
- Provide/Facilitate necessary trainings in the areas of inclusion, IEP alignment, SDI, and instructional strategies
- Ensure that the need for SDI is effectively documented within the IEP and services are implemented with fidelity.
- Ensure Special Education district initiatives, procedures and best practices are maintained to ensure successful SDI services to students.
- Be a knowledgeable resource regarding assistive technology for special education students.
- Collaborate with the Director of Assessment to ensure alternate state assessment procedures are followed by teachers.
- Assist as needed in the wide range of special education responsibilities.
- Meet with evaluation staff to look at broad cognitive abilities scores, identify divergent scores, plan for additional assessments using a cross battery approach
- Facilitate reviewing/editing all Full Individual Evaluations to ensure all legal requirements are met.
- Communicate with principals on the outcome of evaluations by providing a synopsis of the evaluation results prior to the ARD meeting that are teacher and parent friendly.
- Attend ARD meetings as needed to assist administrators and diagnosticians.
- Review ARD documents for accuracy and legal components
- Work with ARD facilitators to ensure accuracy before ARD documents are released to parents.
- Train Special Education teachers on IEP goal writing, PLAAFP writing and implementation of accommodations, differentiating instruction and behavior supports
- Send out current accommodations to classroom teachers, send through Eduphoria or other online systems and obtain digital signatures from teachers.
- Be available for assisting teachers on implementation and documentation of accommodations and modifications.
- Attend and/or facilitate PLC meetings with teachers to train teachers on Cognitive Abilities and how they affect student performance in the classroom.
- Update website with required postings and operating guidelines to be in compliance with state and federal laws.
- Track assessment materials/online licenses needed for evaluations and scoring.
- Create and update templates for Esped to facilitate easier access for report writing for evaluation staff.
- Create and update templates for Esped to facilitate easier access to ARD documents for ARD facilitators.
- Quick check to ensure progress reporting of IEP goals is completed each 6-weeks.
- Assist Threat Assessment Team planning and documentation if a special education student is involved.
- Create/update employee handbook for policies and procedures in the special education department.
- Enhancing productivity of existing personnel.
- Collaborate with staff members and teachers from various departments planning for students in special education.
- Maintains documentation required for State Performance Plan indicators, District Improvement Plans and Corrective Action Plans
- Participates in staff meetings as deemed necessary by the Special Education Director.
- The Coordinator for Special Education plays a critical role in ensuring that district policies and procedures are developed, implemented and supported to promote compliance with federal, state and local policies.

- Monitors needs for students who are deaf or hard of hearing and assist teachers in classroom strategies and support.

Masters degree (preferred)
Special Education certification
Preferred experience as a diagnostician or LSSP
At least 3 years special education teaching experience
