SUMMARY : The Area Coordinator (AC) provides leadership and vision over a specific residential area consisting of one or more buildings. The AC is charged to facilitate a residential learning environment that is conducive to a students’ academic success, social integration, and spiritual development. The position is charged with the supervision and development of a residential life staff that consists of Resident Assistants and a Multicultural Assistant. The AC addresses a student’s developmental need through residential programming offerings that contribute to the overall well-being of a student. With assistance from other staff members and departments, the AC assists in student care and conduct, crises response, occupancy management, and retention initiatives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :
- Execute the mission of the University by providing leadership to the overall operation of residence halls and the wholistic formation of residential students.
- Supervise a residential team consisting of Resident Assistants and one Multicultural Resident Assistant through regular meetings and staff development initiatives, and participate in staff recruitment, selection, and training.
- Develop residential programs that are designed to facilitate a living environment that supports a student’s spiritual, social, academic, and emotional well-being. Participate in the planning and implementation of other residential programs as staff works collaboratively to meet to needs of students.
- Care for students through addressing and responding to students’ physical or emotional health concerns, personal matters, and housing concerns.
- Represent the university in student conduct matters and monitor progress of students placed on health agreements, growth agreements, accountability contracts, and citizenship probation contracts.
- Serve students throughout days and evenings for on-call emergency situations during the week, including a limited number of weekends throughout the year, to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Participate in Student Life meetings and assist in implementing departmental goals and objectives.
- Participate in the recruitment, selection, and training of student staff.
- Assist with the coordination of room assignments and the opening and closing of the residence halls each semester.
- Serve a collateral assignment within Student Life.
- Perform other duties as assigned (20%)
