Our client is a fast-growing healthcare organization seeking a dynamic Director of Accounting to lead and scale its accounting operations. This individual will play a critical role in shaping the company’s financial infrastructure, supporting strategic initiatives, and ensuring strong internal controls during a period of rapid growth. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Leadership

  • Lead the development and enforcement of accounting policies, internal controls, and reporting frameworks to drive financial performance.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, including the consolidation of approximately 50 legal entities.
  • Deliver timely, accurate financial statements and executive-level reporting.
  • Prepare for external audits and ensure an annual clean audit with no material weaknesses.
  • Research complex accounting issues and implement best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations; stay current on relevant legislation and advise leadership on necessary actions.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial information and strategic plans.

 

Operational Oversight

  • Oversee all accounting operations including billing, A/R, A/P, payroll, and general ledger.
  • Drive continuous improvement and automation of accounting processes and systems (ERP/EMR – NetSuite).
  • Manage treasury functions, including daily oversight of bank balances and investment strategy.
  • Develop and document robust business processes and accounting policies to reinforce internal controls.

 

Team Leadership

  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing accounting team.
  • Oversee all aspects of team performance: recruiting, training, coaching, and professional development.
  • Foster a collaborative, results-oriented team culture.

 

Planning & Analysis

  • Partner with the CFO and Director of Finance on budgeting and financial forecasting.
  • Monitor budget performance, analyze variances, and initiate corrective actions.
  • Prepare ad hoc financial reports and trend analyses to support executive decision-making.

 

Business Partnership

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, Sales, Human Resources, and other departments.
  • Support company-wide initiatives related to growth, integration, and scalability.
  • Represent the accounting function with professionalism and strategic insight.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support the evolving needs of a high-growth organization.

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
  • Active CPA designation.
  • 5–10 years of progressive accounting/finance experience.
  • Strong background in preparing financial statements and meeting financial reporting requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Experience managing multiple legal entities under different ownership structures.
  • Proficiency in NetSuite and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience leading ERP implementations or automation projects.
  • Healthcare industry experience, particularly in medical or dental practices, is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with Management Service Organizations (MSOs) and their legal/tax implications is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of revenue recognition for patient services or medical practices is highly preferred.
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate work papers and perform detailed financial analysis using advanced Excel skills.
