What are the responsibilities and job description for the Child Life Assistant position at Corewell Health?
- Provides safe, age and developmentally supportive play activities for patients and families.
- Communicates with nursing, Child Life Specialists and other clinical staff to assist in meeting the developmental needs of patients.
- Maintain clean and safe play environments and organized storage areas in accordance with hospital safety and policies and procedures.
- Supervises and facilitates volunteer resources to help in meeting the needs of the patients and families.
- Monitors and reports to Child Life Specialist any social/emotional needs of the child and family, as well as other defined areas which a patient could benefit from involvement with a Child Life Specialist. (ex. MRI scheduled, IV start, etc.)
- Participates in coordination and implementation of community and special/holiday events which the Child Life Program is involved in supporting.
- Anticipates customer needs and provides services to all customers, including patients, physicians, hospital departments, and staff. Coordinates requests for services, information, records, and data on a timely basis. Researches and resolves problems.
- Attends mandatory meetings, in-services and trainings as required for this position.
- Required High School Diploma or equivalent
- Preferred Associate's Degree in child life, child development, child psychology, early childhood education, recreational therapy or related degree
- 1 year of relevant experience Previous work with children and / or teenagers Preferred
- 1 year of relevant experience Working with volunteers Preferred
- 1 year of relevant experience Program planning and development Preferred
- CRT-CPR - AHA American Heart Association 90 Days required
