What are the responsibilities and job description for the Registered Dietician Advisor position at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Oneida County?


Eat Well Play Hard in Child Care Settings (EWPHCCS) is a multi-faceted obesity prevention strategy that educates parents, their preschool children and childcare program staff on the importance of good nutrition and physical activity. The EWPHCCS Registered Dietitian (RD) Advisor will use existing evidence-based curriculum to provide nutrition education in child day care programs in an effort to support families in making the healthier choice to eat better and play more. The EWPH Central Region covers Oneida, Herkimer, Madison, Oswego, Onondaga, Cayuga, Cortland, St. Lawrence, Jefferson, Lewis, Chenango, Broome and Tompkins Counties. The majority of programming efforts will be delivered in the southern part of the coverage area. Approximately 70% of the work will be conducted in the field providing programming with the remainder of the time spent working out of the CCE Oneida office or remotely (30%). The individual will assist the supervisor with administrative direction and management.

    

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nutrition, Public Health, Health Education or related field.  Associate’s Degree plus 2 years transferrable program/functional experience may substitute.
  • Experience relevant to the role of the position.
  • Registered Dietitian.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to effectively participate in professional team efforts.
  • Ability and willingness to work with diverse audiences and maintain cultural sensitivity.
  • Ability to initiate, plan, organize, implement, teach and evaluate informal educational programs.
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
  • Proficiency with windows-based software including use of the internet and Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Experience implementing policy, systems, and environmental strategies that support sustained healthy behavior changes.
  • Knowledge of community resources and groups that effect change.
  • Experience working with the target audience (limited resource) or courses in adult and youth education or other relevant work experience.
  • Ability to understand and communicate CCE’s mission.
  • Familiarity with the community in which the work will take place and ability to utilize program resources within the community.
  • Ability to plan and organize personal work responsibilities according to priorities developed with immediate supervisor.


Position Details

This is a full-time (37.5 hrs/week), benefits eligible, non-exempt position. Compensation for this position is $30.00 per hour.

The majority of programming efforts will be delivered in the southern part of the coverage area.   Approximately 70% of the work will be conducted in the field providing programming with the remainder of the time spent working out of the CCE Oneida office or remotely (30%).
