This role is responsible for identifying and developing new business opportunities, building trusted relationships with engineering firms, EPCs, contractors, and municipal stakeholders, and delivering customized solutions that align with project and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
- Identify, qualify, and pursue new business opportunities in the municipal, chemical, and industrial sectors, with a strong focus on municipal water infrastructure.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with engineering firms, EPCs, contractors, and municipal agencies.
- Develop and execute strategic sales plans tailored to the unique needs of the municipal sector and aligned with Cortrol’s capabilities.
- Provide technical presentations, conduct lunch-and-learns, and support the development of proposals based on specifications and compliance standards.
- Collaborate with internal teams to craft engineered solutions that meet EPA, state, and local regulations.
- Monitor regulatory changes, funding cycles, and RFP schedules to stay ahead of project developments.
- Represent Cortrol at industry events, tradeshows, and networking functions to expand reach and brand awareness.
- Use CRM tools to manage sales pipeline, track customer interactions, and document opportunity progress.
- Analyze blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications to ensure alignment with customer needs.
- Meet or exceed sales and performance targets for assigned territories and vertical markets.
- Strong negotiation, relationship-building, and strategic planning abilities.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) via phone, email, and social media.
- Experience selling to engineers, project managers, and municipal agencies.
- Ability to interpret and apply technical drawings, specifications, schedules, and bills of materials.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel for financial and technical analysis.
- Familiarity with municipal procurement processes, utility planning, and public infrastructure project lifecycles.
- Understanding of water treatment systems, regulatory frameworks (e.g., EPA, SRF, WIFIA), and funding sources.
- Proficiency with CRM systems (Salesforce, HubSpot, etc.) and project tracking databases such as Dodge.
- Existing network within the municipal water, wastewater, chemical, or industrial sectors is highly desirable.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in technical sales, business development, or sales engineering.
- Background in working with design-build firms, EPCs, or consulting engineers in the municipal space is preferred.
