What are the responsibilities and job description for the Success Mentor position at Counseling in Schools?
Counseling In Schools (CIS) is seeking Part-Time Success Mentors for positions in Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens. Success Mentors are typically matched with 15-20 target students to connect with multiple times a week. Mentor responsibilities are determined by what research shows are the most effective practices for engaging at-risk students and their families. These include personally greeting students upon arrival in the morning to make them feel welcomed and noticed, engaging caregivers, calling home when the mentee is absent, and supporting culture and climate activities and events that encourage school attendance. Additionally, Mentors connect students and families with a wide range of services to help them overcome barriers to school success and graduation.
Qualifications:
- This position is perfect for college students
- Must have a High School diploma or GED; College degree preferred
- Must have high energy; ability to connect with adolescents and maintain professional boundaries
- Must have ability to multitask and prioritize work responsibilities
- Must have good written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working with adolescents and/ or in school settings preferred
Additional Info:
- 16-30 hrs per week
- School Location: Multiple Locations
- This is an on-site position
- This is an hourly position commensurate with experience; $22-$30/ hr
- Candidates must undergo NYC DOE fingerprinting and obtain clearance
