Description
This position performs skilled driving and passenger assistance to transport clients in a safe and efficient manner.
This employee operates a passenger van to transport County citizens to medical, employment and other appointments to enhance quality of life. Work involves following a schedule of assigned stops and making adjustments in pickups to ensure efficient use of time and vehicles. Work requires providing frequent assistance for riders in wheelchairs and with walkers, strapping wheelchairs to lifts and moving some clients in and out of vehicles and buildings, dealing with clients with other special needs and collecting fees for services and recording ridership. Employee performs pre-trip safety inspections to keep the van in good working condition at all times. Work exposes the employee to inside and outside environmental conditions, extremes in temperatures, and hazards associated with equipment operation including, fumes, oils, gases and mists. In addition, employee may be assigned to an early morning shift. Work is performed with assignments from the Dispatcher and under supervision by the Transit Services Director. Evaluations are based on safe and efficient operation of the vehicles, adherence to established standards and client feedback.
Requirements
Graduation from high school or equivalent, with experience in telecommunications, records management and customer service preferred. Training and experience in the operation of a passenger van, and preferably some public driving experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. The candidate selected for this position, must possess a valid NC Driver’s License, a CDL and a clean driving record. To maintain employment, this employee must obtain all required DOT certifications within 6-months.
