What are the responsibilities and job description for the Heavy Equipment Operator I position at COUNTY OF ELLIS?
Job Purpose and Objectives:
Responsible for operating a variety of heavy equipment related to road and bridge maintenance and construction.
Essential Functions:
1. Operates heavy equipment such as a motor grader, roller, blacktop machine, chip spreader, compactor, and other heavy equipment
2. Breaks up asphalt on roads needing repair or replacement
3. Cuts, lays, and covers pipe
4. Digs, compacts, and covers trenches for disposal of refuse
5. Performs finished grading operations
6. Spreads gravel, sand, rock, and asphalt
7. Patches road and bridge surfaces
8. Performs bridge maintenance work such as mowing road ditches, installing and maintaining culverts, and filling washouts
9. Rebuilds roads and bridges
10. Sets up and picks up construction cones and signs
11. Performs light maintenance and servicing of work in connection with the operations of related equipment
12. Hauls rock, asphalt, and sand
13. Enforces and maintains compliance with all federal, state, and local laws and ordinances
14. Performs other duties as assigned or deemed necessary
15. Complies with all organizational and departmental policies and procedures
16. Operates all job-related equipment, machinery, tools, and other aids as required or needed
17. Protects and maintains any confidential information, whether oral, written, or electronic
