Goodhue County is located between the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area and Rochester, MN, in beautiful Red Wing, on the Mississippi River. Our topography varies from the flat plains in the southwest to rolling hill and valleys in the northeast. Goodhue County residents enjoy the splendor of nature and a wide variety of outdoor recreation. The Goodhue County Public Works department maintains 400 miles of County Highways and Roads and inspects about 460 bridges. Our annual construction program is robust and there is a lot of exciting and varied work for our engineering staff. We have great aerial photos and tight aerial survey information to use with our survey equipment.
The Goodhue County Public Works department is seeking to fill a Deputy Director/ Assistant County Engineer position. The Deputy Director/ Assistant County Engineer is part of the leadership team at Public Works, responsible for department operations; personnel activities; representing the County and department at meetings; and serving as the Department Head in the absence of the Public Works Director. This position supervises Engineering Technicians and seasonal staff in addition to overseeing the solid waste division including recycling center operations. The Deputy Director/ Assistant County Engineer manages and directs the construction activities of the highway division which includes planning, engineering, designing tasks. Minimum Qualification
- Bachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering, and
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in Minnesota
This position also requires a valid Class D driver's license.
The ideal candidate has strong relationship building skills including exceptional listening, presentation, verbal and written communication skills. Preferred experience also includes:
- Eight years progressively responsible experience in highway public works or closely related field including aspects of highway design, highway maintenance and planning.
- Five years of increasingly responsible leadership/management experience in public works, civil engineering or closely related field.
- Three years of work-related experience in setting priorities, directing, training, supervising and evaluating full-time and part-time employees.
Compensation
County employees receive generous compensation and benefits. The Deputy Director/ Assistant County Engineer is compensated at salary grade 88 (full range: $83,636 - $130,561). Starting compensation is $83,636 - $87,900 (annually) depending upon qualifications.
