The Goodhue County Attorney's Office is hiring a Victim Witness Coordinator. The Victim Witness Coordinator (VWC) ensures that victims and witnesses of crimes are fully informed of their rights and have the support they need throughout their involvement in the legal system. This position is responsible for educating victims and witnesses about court procedures, their statutory rights, helping them prepare for court proceedings, and attending court sessions to offer ongoing support. The VWC serves as a liaison between victims, witnesses, and legal professionals to make sure that all necessary services are provided, including directing individuals to available resources.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assessing, analyzing, and identifying the needs of victims and witnesses and ensuring that their rights are upheld under Minnesota Statute 611A.
- Works in coordination with the case prosecutor(s) to ensure trial case preparation, victim services, and post-trial matters are handled effectively.
- Providing information on plea agreements, sentencing, victim impact statements, case updates, restitution procedures, and any protection needed for the victim’s safety and security.
- Additionally, this position requires a variety of administrative duties, including maintaining case records, coordinating logistics for witness appearances, and tracking the status of legal proceedings.
- The VWC ensures that victims and witnesses feel heard, supported, and safe throughout their involvement in the criminal justice system.
Minimum Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree in Corrections, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Sociology or related Human Services field; or an associate’s degree/certificate in one of the above areas or related field and a minimum 5 years of substantial experience performing victim witness related duties in a prosecutor’s office; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
A valid driver’s license is required.
Must successfully complete a criminal history background check.
Compensation & Benefits
County employees receive competitive pay and a generous benefit offering. The Victim Witness Coordinator is compensated at salary grade 110 ($62,379-$96,699) and staring annual compensation will depend upon qualifications.
