What are the responsibilities and job description for the Transit Storekeeper - SR-11 position at County of Hawai`i?
There is one (1) permanent full-time vacancy with the Mass Transit Agency - Transit Vehicle Maintenance Support Division in Hilo.
The eligible list may be used for other permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise during the life of the list. Temporary appointment may lead to conversion to permanent appointment.
- Sets up and maintains storekeeping system and procedures.
- Uses a computerized maintenance management system to track, monitor, and manage the use of parts, tools, and equipment by transit vehicle mechanics.
- Receives, stores, and issues spare and replacement transit bus, van, truck, and automotive parts, equipment, and expendable items.
- Plans space allotments for supplies and materials.
- Reads manufacturers' catalogs for stock number and replacement part.
- Determines minimum stock levels of each item of stock.
- Receives, inspects, and counts incoming supplies and materials and determines whether supplies received are in satisfactory condition.
- Checks delivery invoice for quantity, items, unit price of supplies, and materials.
- Advises transit vehicle mechanics on substitution or modification of parts when replacement is not available.
- Discusses with mechanics use, features and relationships of various parts based on knowledge of engine, machinery or equipment.
- Inspects worn-out or damaged tools and equipment for serviceability.
- Prepares daily tabulation of supplies and materials received and issued.
- Posts receipt and issue data to stock record cards, or maintains and updates a computerized inventory program.
- Checks stock record cards for minimum stock level.
- Maintains storage room and keeps area in a clean and orderly condition.
- Initiates requisition for stock replenishment.
- Takes periodic physical inventory of supplies and materials on hand.
- Operates hand truck, fork lift, and other equipment in moving bulk materials and equipment.
- Operates a vehicle for work-related travel which may include picking up parts and supplies.
- May supervise assigned mechanic helpers.
- Performs other related duties are required.
Training and Experience:
graduation from high school, and
two (2) years of storekeeping experience which shall have included the issuance and storage of mass transit, automotive, school bus, or commercial bus parts and accessories, and
- possession of a valid State of Hawai'i driver's license (Class 3) or any other valid comparable driver's license at the time of filing. You will be required to submit your valid driver's license at the time of hire.
Examination: All applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be assigned a score of 70 points. An education and experience evaluation will be conducted based on the applicant's training, education and experience as presented in the application.

Knowledge of: storekeeping practices and methods and procedures, mass transit bus, van, truck, or automotive parts and accessories, clerical practices and procedures, sources of supply, terminology and classification of mass transit bus, van, truck, and automotive parts and accessories inventory recordkeeping, use of computers to input data, purchasing and requisitioning procedures, and problems of storage.
Ability to: establish and maintain storekeeping system, type and use a computer, make arithmetical computations, inspect goods for quantity and quality against purchase orders and invoices, inspect mass transit bus, van, truck, and automotive parts and accessories to determine their operational fitness, work harmoniously with others, and understand and follow oral and written instructions.
