Job Responsibilities
This skilled position will perform work requiring mechanical, electrical and environmental aptitude necessary for the operation and maintenance of groundwater and leachate processing equipment and gas extraction systems. Responsibilities include closed landfill oversight, maintenance of pumps and treatment system equipment, monitoring of landfill gas, oversight of contractors, creation of monitoring and maintenance reports, and interaction with regulatory agencies.
Minimum Qualifications
Must have a High School Diploma or GED and two (2) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of pumps, electrical systems, and related equipment which includes the repair and installation of equipment, or related experience which demonstrates an ability to satisfactorily meet the requirements of the classification.
Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted Michigan driver's license. 40-hour Hazwoper certification desired.
In addition, the qualified candidate will possess:
- Considerable knowledge of the mechanics of pumps, metering devices, and liquid processing equipment including clarifiers, chemical feed systems, filter presses, air compressors, mixers, etc.
- Proven ability to read and understand schematic diagrams and prepare technical reports.
- Ability to analyze and repair electrical and mechanical malfunctions.
- Ability to prepare chemical solution tanks and to properly set chemical feed pumps at specified dosage rate, and ability to work safely with chemicals in various settings.
- Ability and willingness to work in diverse weather and environmental conditions including operating a truck-mounted snowplow and clear snow when needed for site access.
- Must be able to sit, stand and walk for long periods of time and push, pull and/or lift pumps.
