DEFINITION:
Plans and directs the work of a major section engaged in providing custodial services for a number of facilities in an assigned geographic or functional area, and administers the preparation for new facility dedications.
Participates in the development of departmental policies and standards governing custodial operations, safety, training and employee performance; interprets and administers such policies and standards; and establishes job priorities within the area assigned.
Meets with building managers or officials from other departments to coordinate custodial maintenance services and to discuss and reach agreement on cleaning requirements.
Maintains control on the ordering, issuing, storage, safeguarding, and use of custodial supplies and equipment used in the assigned area; investigates and implements or recommends solutions to problems relating to the security of supplies and equipment.
Interviews and selects supervisory and journey level personnel; investigates and prepares written responses to employee grievances; recommend disciplinary action when indicated; serves as witness for the department in matters before the Civil Service Commission and Employee Relations Commission.
Prepares and submits budget requests for the assigned geographic area and directs the allocation of resources to accomplish budget objectives as needed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:Three (3) years of experience supervising employees performing cleaning duties in an institution, office building or similar facility at the level of Custodian Supervisor*.
LICENSE:
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS II – LIGHT:
Light physical effort which may include occasional light lifting to a 10 pound limit, and some bending, stooping or squatting. Considerable walking may be involved.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT INFORMATION:
*Experience at the level of the County of Los Angeles class of Custodian Supervisor is defined as: Supervises the work of a janitorial crew.
Out-of-Class experience will not be accepted.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Additional credit will be given to applicants that possess the following desirable qualifications: Any additional experience in excess of the Minimum Requirements for the qualifying option.
EXAMINATION CONTENT:
This examination will consist of an evaluation of experience based upon application information and desirable qualifications weighted 100%.
Candidates must achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on this examination in order to be placed on the Eligible Register.
ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION:
Applications will be processed on an "as-received" basis, and those receiving a passing score will be promulgated to the eligible register accordingly.
The names of candidates receiving a passing score in the examination will be added to the eligible register in the order of their score group for a period of twelve (12) months following the date of promulgation.
NO PERSON MAY COMPETE IN THIS EXAMINATION MORE THAN ONCE EVERY TWELVE (12) MONTHS.
