This recruitment is to fill one (1) vacant Building Maintenance Worker II Position.

The Building Maintenance division is responsible for more than 50 County owned facilities including libraries, fire stations, Sheriff stations, flood control pump stations, office buildings, and two lock-down facilities. The Building Maintenance Worker II is responsible for performing a variety of routine duties in the maintenance and repair of these buildings, equipment and utility systems and the duties assigned may include, but are not limited to, replacing fluorescent and incandescent lamps, cleaning lighting fixtures and reflectors, cleaning air diffusers, moving and relocating office furniture and equipment, performing minor tasks in carpentry, painting, electrical and plumbing work. The Building Maintenance Worker II will assist higher level Building Maintenance Workers on assigned projects as needed.

The candidate has knowledge of routine building operations and maintenance with experience in plumbing, electrical, construction, and HVAC. The ideal candidate is effective in maintaining good public relations, dealing effectively with individuals of various ages and backgrounds, uses sound independent judgment within established procedural guidelines, and is knowledgeable regarding the safe operation of hand and power tools used in facility and equipment maintenance and repair. In addition, the ideal candidate is capable of working independently for extended periods of time in remote locations, outdoors in any weather conditions, and must work non-standard schedules including evenings, nights, and weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Methods, tools, and materials of various building trades.
  • Codes pertinent to the repair of buildings, building facilities, and related equipment

ABILITY TO:

  • Follow written and oral instructions.
  • Skillfully use hand and power tools of a variety of building trades.
  • To learn quickly new methods or techniques of maintenance and repair work.
  • Perform heavy physical labor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Equivalent to two years of recent full-time experience in building maintenance work or in appropriate trades or crafts which demonstrates possession of the following knowledge and ability requirements.

Certificates and Licenses

Possession of a Building Operators Certification Level I and a Universal Refrigerant Recovery License is highly desirable.

This job class requires travel between various County and business-related locations, including off-road and remote sites. Employees who drive on County business to carry out job-related duties must possess a valid California driver's license for the class of vehicle driven and meet automobile insurability requirements of the County, including review of a recent DMV history. If a driver's license is required, at the time of the selection interview by the appointing authority, applicants will have to furnish a recent DMV driving record.


Special Requirements: Must meet all medical, training, and respiratory protection requirements as outlined in the OSHA Asbestos Standard for the Construction Industry. Facial hair that may interfere with a respirator is not permitted.
 
Candidates will need to successfully pass a background investigation to include fingerprint and criminal history evaluation.

Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
