What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substance Abuse Counselor position at County of Monmouth?
Under direction of a Supervising Counselor Penal Institution, does field and office work to provide intake, outreach and aftercare counseling services; as well as other related duties as required. Work hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or as approved by the Supervisor.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assists in the development of preliminary treatment and rehabilitation plans
Alone or in a team, participates in interviews with clients
Participates in case, diagnostic and progress conferences
Investigates and verifies pertinent facts and information necessary for an effective treatment plan
Attends and takes par in conferences, training institutes, and meeting concerned with programs and activities of the unit
Develops working relationships with involved agencies such as welfare departments, the police, courts, probation and parole officers, schools, clinics, hospitals, physicians, lawyers, clergy and employers.
Assists with discharge planning
Assists in referred inmates with in-patient placement according to policies and procedures. Demonstrates proficiency with all aspects of the referral process
Maintains an assigned caseload of clients and provides necessary group or individual counseling
Plans and conducts informal group discussions and classes designated to encourage participation, within the bounds of the discipline and with a view toward the development of positive attitudes, cooperative relationships, and social reeducation and adjustments
Plans and conducts form group discussions on a variety of subjects
Develops appropriate curricula on Substance Abuse, Dependency and related topics
Assists with group and recreational activities of the program and stimulates interest in and cooperation with social and educational programs
Provides personal counsel to individual inmates on problems relation to social behavior, personal relationships addiction
Performs other duties as needed
Prepares reports and routine correspondence
Maintains files and records
Within the team, maintains adequate inventory of class handouts and materials
Meets deadlines, prepares necessary reports
Assists with maintaining the general cleanliness and orderliness of the work area
Properly cares for and operates all machines and equipment, including but not limited to computer terminals, telephones, photocopiers, fascimile and shredder
Assures all deadlines are met
Assists with on the job training for any new employees and interns assigned to the Substance Abuse Unit
