Under direction, performs a variety of semi-skilled work for repair and maintenance of County buildings and equipment;-performs janitorial duties, and other work as assigned.
Incumbents in this class perform custodial duties as well as minor building maintenance duties, including basic carpentry, painting, and plumbing.
This class is distinguished from the classification of Building Maintenance Worker in that the latter requires considerable skill in the repair and maintenance of buildings and equipment.
This class is distinguished from the classification of Custodian in that incumbents perform basic building maintenance tasks as well as custodial duties.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, waxes and buffs floors, as well as vacuums, shampoos and steam cleans carpets
- Dusts and polishes furniture
- Maintains restrooms in a sanitary condition and replenishes supplies
- Hangs drapes and curtains
- Opens buildings and/or locks exterior doors and turns off lights
- Washes windows
- Sets up rooms for meetings or may move and arrange office furniture
- Replaces light bulbs, resets breakers, replaces broken outlet covers, etc.
- Makes minor repairs on toilets and faucets, such as tightening or replacing toilet seats, replacing faucet seals
- Repairs cement, plaster, stone and brickwork; textures walls; patches floors
- Adjusts doors for proper opening and closing
- Repairs, assembles or adjusts furniture and shelving. May be involved with disassembly, loading on moving trucks, reassembly and setting up furniture in new locations.
- Hangs bulletin boards, clocks, and lightweight pictures and fixtures
- Uses a variety of hand tools to accomplish maintenance tasks
- Lowers and/or raises office workers' desks for ergonomic reasons
- May assist the plumber or building maintenance worker on a variety of maintenance functions
- Performs minor painting projects, including preparing surfaces for painting, painting walls, furniture, and other surfaces
