Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Instrument Man to join our team. As an Instrument Man, you will be responsible for assisting the survey crew in conducting land surveys and collecting accurate data. This is a hands-on role that requires knowledge of surveying equipment and software.
Responsibilities:
- Set up and operate surveying instruments such as total stations, levels, and GPS equipment
- Assist in measuring distances, angles, elevations, and contours using surveying equipment
- Collect field data and input it into computer software such as Carlson, CAD, or ArcGIS
- Perform calculations using algebra, trigonometry, and geometry to determine property boundaries and measurements
- Assist in the construction of survey monuments and markers
- Conduct research to gather information on land records, maps, and previous surveys
- Maintain and calibrate surveying equipment
- Perform heavy lifting as needed to transport equipment and supplies
- Use hand tools to clear brush or debris from survey sites
Requirements:
- Previous experience as an Instrument Man or similar role preferred
- Proficiency in using surveying instruments such as total stations, levels, and GPS equipment
- Strong mathematical skills including algebra, trigonometry, and geometry
- Familiarity with software programs such as Carlson, CAD, ArcGIS, or GIS
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and terrain
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data collection
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with the survey crew
- Ability to perform heavy lifting and physical tasks as required
