What are the responsibilities and job description for the Piping CAD Designer position at CR Meyer?

The Piping CAD Designer contributes to the overall success of CR Meyer and its customers by preparing various construction drawings and other documents related to heavy industrial piping systems. Works collaboratively within the Fab Shop and other project teams. Ensures the timely development of drawings to support a wide variety of piping projects.

  • As part of the Fabrication team, works with customers, project managers, the Design/Build team, etc. to create construction drawings and other related documents that take into account the customer’s vision, budget and other requirements.
  • Uses Revit and other BIM software to setup and model 2D/3D drawings of heavy industrial piping systems.
  • Uses Bluebeam or other drawing markup tools to coordinate changes with designers and engineers.
  • Ensures that documents and drawings are maintained from the design through post-construction phases. Manages files on shared sites, network servers and other software platforms.
  • Participates in proposal and owner review meetings to present information and discuss key deliverables, budget expectations and construction progress.
  • Participates in site visits as required, for code analysis and drawing production.
  • Prepares project-deliverable packages for fabrication drawings.
  • Holds self accountable for personal time management and deliverables to meet project schedules and task deadlines.
  • Processes and manages backgrounds provided by trade partners.
  • Checks completed work for quality and adherence to CR Meyer BIM standards.
  • Communicates design and constructability information and challenges with the project and/or field teams.
  • Fosters collaborative working relationships with all colleagues and project team members.
  • Applies training and project experience and demonstrates continual improvement of technical abilities.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of software and available technology.
  • Participates in all pertinent CR Meyer Safety Training and Safety Meetings, and plays a positive, proactive active role in promoting safety requirements on the job-site.
  • Wears all assigned PPE and observes CR Meyer safety guidelines at all times.
  • Due to project deadlines and demands, regular and reliable attendance is required.
  • Completes all related reports and paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Represents the CR Meyer brand in a positive, professional manner at all times.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
  • Associate Degree or Technical Certificate in Engineering, Technical Drafting or similar field of study preferred.
  • 2 years of experience working in Revit drawing piping systems.
  • Strong knowledge of piping and related components required.
  • Working knowledge and/or experience with AutoCAD, Bluebeam and Microsoft Office Suite is preferred.
  • Heavy industrial construction background is preferred.
  • Ability to complete all CR Meyer training and perform job duties within safety guidelines including, but not limited to, First/Aid-CPR Certification, OSHA 30 and SafeStart.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening and comply with CR Meyer’s Drug & Alcohol Policy and Program.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, insurable driving history and ability to operate a motor vehicle following all traffic laws and safe, courteous driving habits.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
