Essential Job Functions:
Shadow and assist licensed nursing staff with:
- Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to ensure the best plan of care for each resident.
- Gaining knowledge about the care of all residents under your responsibility.
- Conducting rounds to ensure Care Plans are followed and residents receive optimal care.
- Helping with writing and updating resident assessments and care plans, while learning about the MDS and Quality Indicators.
- Taking note of all physician orders (verbal and written) and acting accordingly.
- Assisting with appointment scheduling by notifying the Unit Clerk of physician orders.
- Documenting thoroughly and accurately, including nurse charting, MDS, Medicare, and lab/diagnostic results.
- Completing assigned MDS assessments and ensuring an accurate shift report for the oncoming nurse.
• Take pride in the accuracy and quality of your work.
• Scan central supply items for each resident, ensuring proper inventory management.
• Report any errors to the ADON/DON right away to ensure a safe and effective care environment.
• Report any witnessed or suspected abuse immediately to the DON, ADON, or Administrator, maintaining the safety and dignity of all residents.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
• Medical terminology and safety procedures.
• Infection control protocols and emergency procedures.
• Resident rights and how to identify and report abuse and neglect.
Skills in:
• Operating equipment and tools used in resident care.
• Following safety protocols and maintaining safety standards.
• Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Utilizing various computer applications for documentation and patient management.
Ability to:
• Recognize changes in a resident’s condition and take swift, appropriate action.
• Seek help when facing challenges or situations outside of your scope.
• Be sensitive to residents and their families, responding with professionalism and care.
• Always operate within your scope of practice, following the Arizona State Board of Nursing Rules and Nurse Practice Act.
• Use diagnostic equipment effectively.
• Build strong working relationships with colleagues, residents, and their families.
• Read, write, and understand instructions with clarity and precision.
• Maintain confidentiality, especially in high-pressure or changing environments.
Required Minimum Education, Experience, and Training:
• Graduate of a state-approved nursing school.
• Must pass the NCLEX exam for licensure within 30 days of hire.
• Must obtain a current Arizona State Board nursing license within 60 days of hire.
Special Job Requirements:
• Participate in mandatory nursing meetings and continuing education classes.
• Obtain and maintain an Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Card (at the employee’s expense).
• Maintain CPR certification.
• Complete annual Tuberculosis Testing.
• Finish required 12 hours of annual in-service training.
• Fulfill mandated federal, state, and local communicable disease testing.
