What are the responsibilities and job description for the Child Development Center Cook/Kitchen Manager position at Crescent Child Development Center?
Crescent Child Development Center is committed to excellence and facilitating the growth and development of both staff and students. Our focus is to provide an accessible, high-quality, and developmentally appropriate educational experience that promotes social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development for children who are 6 weeks and older in a nurturing environment. Our instruction focuses on language and communication development through participation in exploration, play and socialization opportunities, activities of daily living, and evidence-based curriculum activities.
We are partnered with the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) to provide yummy and nutritional meals to all of our students. We serve breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack daily to around 45 kids. We are looking for someone to join our team and cook for our students as we grow our Center.
Duties
Comply and maintain DHEC kitchen requirements, this mainly includes ensuring food items are labeled, and equipment is kept clean and organized, dishes and utensils are washed, sanitized, and stored properly. Additionally, food is washed, stored, prepped, cut, and cooked based on DHEC and DSS licensing standards.
The chef will assist and learn over time how to menu plan and write a weekly menu. They will prep and serve breakfast, lunch, and an afternoon snack. The Chef will learn and participate in CACFP documentation and assist with making food for any special events at the Center.
Must be able to start work at 7:15 am Monday-Friday. End time can be worked out depending on if you are looking for a part-time or a full-time job.
Requirements
Ability to read and write in English in order to follow recipes and fill out related forms.
Reliable Transportation
Ability to measure wet and dry ingredients
Basic culinary/cooking knowledge
Lift 25 lbs, stand and walk for lengthy periods of time
Safely use a variety of kitchen equipment and utensils (mixer, knives, peeler, electric can opener, etc)
Must be able to pass a variety of background checks and complete DSS Childcare employee requirements such as a health evaluation and tuberculosis screening.
Nice To Haves
6 months working in a DSS Licensed Child Care Facility
Formal education and training in Culinary
Experience cooking for large volumes of people
Formal education or knowledge of food patterns for children
