CREST Collaborative located in Andover, MA is seeking an Orientation & Mobility Specialist. CREST provides services to students ages Pk - 22 in a substantially separate educational environment as well as within school districts in the greater Merrimack Valley area. General Job Duties
•Evaluation of the visually impaired for safety and mobility in the school or community setting
•Teach use of low vision aides including pre-cane, white cane and sighted guide techniques
•Work with teachers to assure follow through of techniques for the individual student within the classroom
•Teach individuals to maximize the use of their vision and their ability to interpret other senses to make decisions in safety and mobility
•Awareness and training in the use of community resources i.e. banks, Post Office, Travel ect.
•Teach the social aspects of travel including asking or declining assistance
•Teach the visually impaired walking with safety, efficiency and independence
•Assists with student restraint as needed.
•Provide consultation and training to staff and regular education students to increase their awareness of visually impaired
•Provide techniques to assist in their safety and mobility.
