Victim Advocate

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain client rights to confidentiality
  • Provide court accompaniment, crisis intervention and legal advocacy to victims and significant others during all legal proceedings
  • Initiate appropriate follow-up contact with victims and significant others to inform them of status of case
  • Keep updated on the status of each case gathered through preliminary hearings
  • Advocate for victims’ rights
  • Assist victims in the preparation of victim impact statements, as needed
  • Assist victims with completion and submitting of compensation claims with PCCD
  • Assist victims in completing SVP and PFI orders and provide accompaniment
  • Coordinate with law enforcement and the District Attorney’s office at hearings in order to insure victim’s rights
  • Serve on Fayette County committees and task forces as necessary
  • Assist in the development of comprehensive sexual assault/other crime protocols to be utilized by professionals in the community
  • Assist with the development and training of volunteers to provide legal advocacy
  • Assist with public speaking to community organizations and professional in-service training
  • Compile statistical information for and assist with the completion of required reports
  • Attend staff meetings and appropriate training opportunities
  • Evaluate client satisfaction surveys annually
  • Provide hotline coverage

QUALIFICATIONS

· Degree in criminology, psychology, or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience

· Attention to detail and be organized

· Knowledge of the criminal justice system

· Knowledge of Microsoft office

REQUIREMENTS

· ACT 33 Clearance (PA Childline)

· ACT 34 Clearance (PA State Police)

· FBI Clearance

· Completion of state mandated forty hour Sexual Assault/Other Crime Counselor Training

· Reliable Transportation and a Driver’s License (travel required)

· Available to work occasional evenings
