Title: Medical Advocate

Reports To: Assistant Director

General Summary:

To function within the framework, philosophy, mission, and policies of CCN.

The MedicalAdvocate coordinates project goals, objectives, and activities

within medical settings and facilitates project data collection and reporting.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

The incumbent should have a firm knowledge about the nature of domestic violence and its impact upon society. They must have the capacity to work with diverse populations as well as the ability to provide crisis intervention through counseling and advocacy resources. The incumbent should possess the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment and interact professionally and assertively with others. She/he must also have an ability to communicate the principles of victim advocacy, and a commitment to the empowerment philosophy of the domestic violence movement.

Essential Functions:

1. Collaborates with various medical institutions to provide training, resources, and system-wide change

Key Tasks:

a. Participate in the education and training of medical personnel

b. Coordinate other staff who are providing outreach services and training to the medical community

c. Facilitate the development of project oversite committees in various medical settings. Assist with “system advocacy” efforts as requested.

d. Engage in “sytem advocacy efforts” within medical settings to ensure the smooth delivery of services to domestic violence victims.

e. Assist in the development of project materials

2. Provide crisis intervention, support, options and counseling to meet the immediate needs of clients in medical settings.

Key Tasks:

a. Provide intake, counseling, referral services and follow-up counseling in person or on the

Hotline as needed

b. Provide intervention with individuals, other agencies and systems on behalf of clients.

c. Provide emergency coverage in-person after-hours in hospitals, legal, or police settings.

3. Represent Crisis Center North on local, regional, and/or statewide committees that represent the interest victims of domestic violence.

Key Tasks:

a. Serve as a co-chair on all medical advisory/task force committees established with local medical institutions.

b. Represent CCN on all funding and or regional committees.

c. Participate in PCADV Medical Medical Advocacy Task Force Meetings

d. Participate on other related committees as needed

4. Recruit, train and monitor volunteer medical advocates to exapnd the capacity of CCN’s Medical Advocacy Program

Key Tasks:

a. Assist in the recruiting and training of new volunteers

b. Supervise volunteer medical advocates and interns

d. Participate in the 48-hour training of all volunteers

5. Track and document service provisions

Key Tasks:

a. Document all client and client-related contact on appropriate forms

b. Compile statistics and other relevant data for submission in a timely fashion

c. Submit regularly scheduled reports to funding sources

d. Meet with the Direct Services Supervisor on a regular basis to develop planning and program

objectives and goals

6. Contribute to organizational goals and objectives as a team member

Key Tasks:

a. Attend all required staff meetings, training sessions and provide reports to fellow staff

regarding program area as necessary

b. Implement and support all strategic planning goals and objectives.

c. Offer support and assistance to all staff members

d. Adhere to CCN Confidentiality Policy

e. Maintain a professional manner at all times

f. Must serve on hotline and as advocacy team member

g. Must have reliable transportation

h. May assume other duties as required

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree preferred

Clearance Requirements:

a. Criminal Record Check

b. PA Child Abuse History Clearance

c. FBI Clearance

Hours:

40 hours a week or as required

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.45 - $30.00 per hour

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Pittsburgh, PA: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)

Experience:

  • Training delivery: 1 year (Preferred)

Willingness to travel:

  • 25% (Preferred)
