We are currently seeking a Full-time & Part-time Phlebotomist for our Laboratory Department.

JOB SUMMARY:
Obtaining of patient specimens for the purpose of laboratory testing. Responsible for delivery of the specimen to the laboratory located in the hospital for processing. Occasionally responsible for temp registration and ordering of tests.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Process blood and other specimens for transport to reference labs.
2. Monitor blood drawing areas and stock area as needed.
3. Processes Lab reports and charts results as needed for clinic physicians.
4. Obtain copy of patient’s insurance and driver’s license for billing requirements.
5. Interact with and cooperate with technical and support personnel for maximum Laboratory efficiency.
6. Perform assigned courier duties in relation to CCH Reference testing functions.
7. Obtain diagnosis information for all tests ordered.
8. Schedules patient testing and accessions their collection, registration, billing medical necessity, and Medical records compliance.
9. Assures that patient results are routed appropriately to other ordering physicians.
10. Greets patients, visitors and vendors.
11. Adjusts to meet the needs of patients in following age groups: Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric for laboratory.
12. Prints and has patient sign Advanced Beneficiary Notification (ABN) if required.
13. Assures that patient demographic information is correct in the LIS.
14. Routes path reports to appropriate destinations.
15. Checks reports with requisitions to ensure that all tests ordered were completed and that tests were ordered correctly. This is done using requisitions or reports from CPSI computer and patient orders.
16. Orders Reference laboratory supplies for collection storage and shipping.
17. Gets a list of supplies needed to stock the clinic lab to the Laboratory Director weekly.
18. Routes reports that don’t go electronically to appropriate locations for other ordering physicians.
19. Routine performance of venipunctures and other specimen collections.
20. Communicates with clinic staff to obtain diagnosis and billing information as needed.
21. Performs other duties as required for completion of lab results to FPC.
22. Instructs patients in the collection of clean catch and 24 hr. urine specimens.
23. Assists in data review for quality purposes and assists in preparing quarterly PI reports.
24. Provides education to problem areas on specimen integrity and ID confirmation when required.
25. Is familiar with and complies with all Regulatory Compliance regulations.
26. Communicates with CCH lab staff and FPC physicians and staff in order to resolve any problems or concerns regarding the operations between the clinic and the laboratory.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training or Experience:
  • High School Graduate,

  • General typing/computer skills,

  • Valid Kentucky drivers license with good driving record,

  • Professional attitude, appearance and demeanor; ability to meet and work with people.

  • Previous experience with Medicare “Medical Necessity” regulations preferred;

  • Prior, proven experience with neonatal, pediatric and geriatric patients’ blood collection.


  • Physical Demands:
    Long periods of time standing / walking (majority of time)
    Extended periods of computer work
    Limited amount of bending, reaching, and light lifting.

    Work Environment:
    Daily exposure to potentially harmful chemicals and/or body fluids.
    Must be able to work in close proximity to co/workers.
    Daily exposure to mechanical equipment.

    Motor Coordination - Ability to coordinate eyes and hands to fingers rapidly and accurately in making precise movements with speed. Requirement: Moderate
    Finger dexterity - Ability to move the fingers easily and skillfully. Requirement: High
    Manual dexterity - Ability to move hands easily and skillfully. Requirement: High
    Eye-hand-foot coordination - Ability to move the hand and foot coordinately with each other in accordance with visual stimuli. Requirement: Low.
    Color discrimination - Ability to perceive similarities and differences in color. Requirement: High
