Our team members work vigorously to meet our customers’ needs. No two days are the same! Crofton is seeking a Tool Assistant to join our team.

The ideal Tool Assistant inventories, stores, and distributes hand tools and other equipment. They maintain tool functionality, calibration specifications, and safe condition by performing frequent inspections of tools and equipment for wear, defects, or damage.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • Pick and stage tools as requested for various jobs
  • Cycle counting inventory and Conex boxes.
  • Assist in entering information into the Inventory Management System (Tool Watch) and building Excel spreadsheets with infill and ordering information.
  • Collect and maintain certifications for various items within the purview of the Tool Department.
  • Perform light maintenance on various tools or prepare them to be sent out for repair.
  • Help build, create and maintain job boxes, conexes and kits to be used on the jobsite.
  • Work with industry-specific and high complex precision machines, including but not limited to conveyors, lathes, mills, grinders, saws, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems, pumps, gears, bearings, compressors etc.
  • Use precision leveling and alignment tools in order to measure angles, material thickness, and small distances with calipers, squares, micrometers, and other tools.
  • Fit bearings, align gears and wheels, attach motors, and connect belts according to manufacturers’ blueprints and drawings.
  • Assist with the dismantling of machines using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools.
  • Assist with the unloading, inspecting, moving, and setting of equipment into position using cranes, hoists, dollies, rollers, and trucks.
  • Use rigging and hoisting devices such as chokers, chain falls, and hand winches to move equipment / materials into place.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance on small hand tools, equipment and pumps.
  • Operate mobile equipment fork trucks.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Basic understanding of function and repair of general tools and equipment.
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills.
  • Ability to accurately perform cycle counts.
  • Trade specific math - (working knowledge of geometry and trigonometry a plus).
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills across all levels, both verbal and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently at a satisfactory pace as determined by your supervisor.
  • Must be reliable and report on time for work daily.
  • Possess the ability to perform work tasks as instructed to completion.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Proficient in tool maintenance
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Some inventory experience preferred but not required

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like.
  • Exposure to construction and marine site dangers.
  • Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.
  • Operating motor vehicles or heavy equipment.
  • Ability to see and respond to dangerous situations.
  • Noisy environments.
  • Ability to respond quickly to sounds.
  • Able to traverse all areas of the jobsite in all types of weather; this may require walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching.
