Job Summary:

The Behavioral Health Counselor is responsible for providing professional counseling, crisis management and advocacy for patients.  This individual consults with and advises medical and clinical staff on mental health issues of patients.

Qualifications

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Collaborates with and advocates for patients and all involved Behavioral Health entities
• Manages the care of patients in collaboration with other health professionals, members of the healthcare team and other professionals involved in the drug court setting, in order to make decisions about treatment and attain health goals
• Receives Behavioral Health therapy referrals, provides counseling, maintains and records all pertinent patient information in a secure and accurate manner
• May be required to work across multiple sites, including the community care campus and the jail setting
• Vigilant to safety concerns and takes appropriate steps to ensure both patient and staff safety
• Performs other duties as required

• Ability to speak and write fluently in English; Spanish desirable
• Ability to work independently and interdependently within a clinic setting utilizing various accepted therapeutic modalities, adherence to a strong code of personal and professional ethics
• Proficiency in data entry, interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills
• Willingness to pursue continuing educational opportunities and maintain compliance with professional licensure renewal

Education and Experience:

• Master’s Degree in clinical social work, psychology or related field required
• LCSW or LCPC preferred
• CADC preferred (if primarily working with our substance use disorder patient population)
• Successful work history of direct patient counseling

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to work in conditions that include exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissues, contagious diseases and/or other potentially hazardous materials
• Moderate physical exertion including frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching and carrying moderately heavy loads (up to 25 lbs.)
