Job Summary:Crossroads Continuum is seeking a dedicated and passionate Lead Special Education Teacher to join our mission-driven team. The Lead Special Education Teacher will be responsible for developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and assisting with the development of Behavior Management Guidelines (BMGs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) tailored to meet each student’s unique needs. This role involves supervising ABA Teachers (ABATs), ensuring systematic evaluation of student progress, and enhancing program effectiveness. The Lead Special Education Teacher also serves as the primary liaison for communication with parents and legal guardians.
Responsibilities:- Ensure the supervision and safety of students
- Maintain CALM certification and use CALM techniques to ensure safety
- Demonstrate competency in foundational ABA concepts and skills
- Maintain teaching credentials
- Produce high-quality work with minimal errors
- Recognize and acknowledge the accomplishments and contributions of others
- Accept performance feedback gracefully
- Plan quarterly field trips and weekly community outings
- Update necessary documentation (e.g., Salesforce) per protocol
- Assist students with Activities of Daily Living, including showering and toileting
- Participate in swimming activities
- Ensure all students have needed items throughout the school day (e.g., meals, toothbrush, water bottle, AAC device, edible reinforcers, extra clothes)
- Lift half of your own body weight
- Drive students and staff in school vehicles to community locations as needed
- Ensure classroom participation in zones during arrival and dismissal
- Adhere to the Crossroads Employee Handbook
- Perform other duties as requested by supervisors
- Develop staffing and classroom schedules to ensure proper IEP implementation
- Post and follow schedules for ABATs, specifying programs taught to each student during each time period
- Take a leadership role at all times (e.g., in the classroom, during school events, on community outings)
- Read and initial home notes for each student every morning after arrival
- Assist in the development of transition plans
- Ensure staff implement clinical and educational programming with high fidelity
- Conduct annual performance evaluations for ABATs
- Ensure ABATs meet required deadlines
- Maintain a well-organized classroom and ensure the professional presentation of student notebooks, supplies, and materials
- Document performance feedback as necessary
- Master’s degree in Education, Behavior Analysis, or a related field preferred
- Current Massachusetts teaching certification
- 3-5 years of teaching experience in the field of autism or education preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
- Ability to multitask and prioritize to meet deadlines
- Proficiency in computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Caring, compassionate, hard-working, and punctual
- Interest in building a career in nonprofit service for individuals with developmental disabilities
- Ability to move quickly and confidently to intervene when protective holds or movements are necessary
- Ability to pursue a bolting student
- Ability to successfully complete CALM training, which requires:
- Lifting half of body weight
- Pivoting
- Squatting
- Kneeling
- Remaining in a kneeling position for an extended time
- Standing from kneeling while supporting student weight without pushing off the ground with hands
- Assisting a student to the floor (only used in the school)
