Job Description: The Counselor 1 is responsible for managing non-complex patients to include gathering biopsychosocial data, documenting program, and establishing a course of treatment. The Counselor 1 supports group counseling by facilitating psychoeducation groups and co-facilitating therapeutic groups. The Counselor 1 performs basic case management and care coordination and may assist with high acuity patients. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following and other duties that are assigned. · Provides individual counseling to non-complex patients. · Facilitates psychoeducation groups independently and co-facilitates therapeutic groups under the direction of a Counselor 2 or 3. · Provides patient education relating to the illness of chemical dependency and the process of recovery. · Directs training groups and seminars and provide therapeutic leadership in group counseling sessions. · Functions as a liaison with other community-based agencies and law enforcement agencies to ensure continuity of treatment (referrals) and compliance to legal obligations · Completes individual chemical dependency assessment of new patients. This includes not only the psychosocial but also all required forms that require the new patient’s signature. The counselor is responsible for the accuracy and completeness (all blanks filled) of the assessment process. · Develops the Individual treatment plan (ITP) for the new patient within established time frame of patient’s admission. · Updates new patient charts within established time frames. · Work with the medical staff in securing urine samples for monthly urinalysis. Document results in the patient’s chart. · Provides necessary forms to the Medical Director when the patient has special request for take-out medications, dose changes, phase changes, MSW schedule and medication changes. · Ensures that patient confidentially is protected by properly completing release of information to ALL outside referrals and contacts (i.e. medical coordination, information from other facilities.) · Ensures confidentiality and compliance of patients’ files. · Discharges patient from program within thirty (30) days from the date of discharge and completes discharge form. · Contributes to the ongoing assessment and treatment planning process through participation in daily reports, case reviews, and treatment teams. · Provides supportive counseling or crisis intervention services in conjunction with medical and nursing service, as circumstances deem necessary. · Provides education and public information services to the general public and the professional community regarding opioid treatment programs. · Participates in a program of professional development including both external and facility required number of internal in-service programs and events; works toward and or maintains professional credentials as a Certified Addictions Counselor. · Participates in the Continuing Quality Improvement and collects and reports on assigned CQI monitors. Ability to work well in a group setting and independently. Education and/or Experience: · Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 0-2 years’ experience required. Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret human service periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, mean, mode and median ability to draw and interpret graphs. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, sit, use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee occasionally lifts/carries paperwork, files, office supplies, up to 20 lbs., pushes/pulls exerting up to 5-10 lbs. force, opening doors, file drawers, pushing files in drawers, and kneeling/crouching and/or ability to reach lower file drawers, file stretching to store of retrieve materials. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Frequent sitting at desk or computer while typing, completing paperwork, or meeting with patients. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Normal office environment where there is no physical discomfort cue to temperature, dust, noise, and the like. Position Requirements: The most qualified candidates will possess the following: LPC, LMFT, LSATP, LCSW or CSAC license is required. Must have at least one year of experience as a substance abuse counselor. Must be registered with the Virginia Substance Abuse Professional Certification board - applicants who are not registered will not be considered for employment. Experience treating opioid-addicted patients is not a requirement but is preferred. No legal impediments to serving in a licensed opiate treatment program. Must have a valid driver's license.
