Job Description: The Substance Abuse Counselor is responsible for the direct execution of clinical treatment services for patients. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following and other duties that are assigned. · Assessing the counseling needs of patients. · Assessing patients using the ASI or other standardized clinical interview tool and diagnosing patients for substance use disorder using the DSM-5. · Determining the appropriate level of care according to ASAM Criteria. · Obtaining previous records that are relevant to the current treatment episode. · Unless clinically contraindicated, collaborating with the patient to develop a written treatment plan that includes goals and measurable objectives, and is patient-centered and recovery- oriented (a written schedule to update each patient’s treatment plan will be developed, monitored, and provided by the Director of Substance Abuse Counseling Services to ensure patient needs are met). · Providing the substance abuse counseling services specified in the patient’s treatment plan. · Reviewing patients throughout the treatment episode according to the ASAM Criteria to determine the need for continued services, transfer, or discharge/transfer. · Reviewing and, where necessary, revising the patient’s treatment plan to address ongoing problems. · Developing a patient discharge/transfer plan to ensure movement to the appropriate level of care. · Contact, case consultation if necessary, and coordination with referral sources (for example, mental health treatment providers, criminal justice agencies, schools, employers, DCPP, etc.). · Participating as ta member of the multidisciplinary team for assigned patients. · Providing active case consultation. · Documenting all counseling and education services, assessments, reassessments, referrals and follow-up in the patient’s record, and providing appropriate signatures and dating of such entries, including those made in electronic records. Education and/or Experience: · The Substance Abuse Counselor must meet state-defined minimum licensure, education, and experience requirements. Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret human service periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, mean, mode and median ability to draw and interpret graphs. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, sit, use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee occasionally lifts/carries paperwork, files, office supplies, up to 20 lbs., pushes/pulls exerting up to 5-10 lbs. force, opening doors, file drawers, pushing files in drawers, and kneeling/crouching and/or ability to reach lower file drawers, file stretching to store of retrieve materials. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. Frequent sitting at desk or computer while typing, completing paperwork, or meeting with patients. Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Normal office environment where there is no physical discomfort cue to temperature, dust, noise, and the like. Clinic Hours: Mon- Fri 445a-1245p, rotating Sat 6a-9a The most qualified candidates will possess the following: Bachelor's degree in human services or a related field. Certified/licensed in addiction counseling in the state of SC is preferred. Experience treating opiate-addicted patients is preferred. Candidate must be willing to start early in the morning, as work hours start at 4:45 AM. No legal impediments to serving in a licensed opiate treatment program. If recovering, three years of continuous verifiable abstinence is required.
