Casual Terminal Driver/Lasher (JAX)

SUMMARY: Casuals will be lashing down cargo, working inspections, or tasked with various jobs on the terminal. Casuals may also operate yard jockey trucks to load and offload barges.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Required to perform duties in the freight warehouses, lashing onboard vessels, working in various other positions throughout the terminal, and performing other physical and manual labor tasks as directed by terminal management.

PAY: $20.60/hourly

HOURS: No set schedules or guaranteed hours - job is on-call. Casuals are NOT GUARANTEED a (40) forty-hour work week nor a full-time regular position with the company.

Casual lasher/drivers are temporary employees used to cover situations such as replacements for absenteeism, vacation, and increased workload. This position is not permanent but does have the potential to become permanent.

• Must pass a basic skills driving test conducted by the Safety Manager.
• T he driving test consists of three backing evolutions using a yard jockey with attached bomb cart and container (also known as brute truck or yard holster). The driver will be instructed to commute a short distance at the terminal, maneuver the yard jockey in a safe manner, and conventionally back the bomb cart & container between two additional bomb carts.
  
  

• CDL with hazmat endorsement is preferred but not required.
• Must be available to work at all times. Hours are assigned daily based on vessel operations.
• Have the ability to lift 50 pounds.
• Will be required to obtain a port security identification pass issued by the Jacksonville Port Authority.
• Any applicant unable to obtain a pass is not eligible for hire.

COMPANY EXPECTATIONS:

• Casuals can be let go at any time for any reason while in a casual status.
• Please do not show up at any Crowley facility unannounced.
• All applicants must have a current referral from Teamster 512 on file.
