Role and Responsibilities for the Controller
- Oversee the preparation and analysis of accurate financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) or International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
- Lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial close processes.
- Develop and manage the annual budget process.
- Provide variance analysis and identify opportunities to optimize financial performance.
- Monitor and forecast cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations and oversee the preparation of tax filings.
- Coordinate internal and external audits, addressing findings and implementing recommendations.
- Maintain and improve internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of finance and accounting professionals.
- Collaborate with executive leadership to provide financial insights and drive strategic initiatives.
- Identify and mitigate financial risks to the organization.
- Oversee the implementation and management of financial software and systems.
- Continuously assess and improve accounting policies and procedures for efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications for the Controller:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master’s degree or MBA preferred). At least seven years of experience in the accounting field required, and public accounting experience is preferred.
- CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional certification is strongly preferred.
- Proven experience in financial management, with 5 years in a leadership role.
- In-depth knowledge of financial regulations, accounting standards, and best practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in financial software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or Oracle) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with various stakeholders.
