Job Summary
This is the fourth level of the 9-1-1 Operations series responsible for training new dispatchers, completing Quality Assurance (QA) reviews of phone calls & incidents and acts as the shift supervisor in the absence of the Supervisor.
The assistant supervisor is the lead dispatcher in the Emergency Communications Center (ECC) and helps to oversee operations on the floor and assists other dispatchers when needed. The assistant supervisor is the lead trainer of new employees and those employees in the process of promoting to new positions. The assistant supervisor performs QA reviews and will act as the shift supervisor in the absence of the Supervisor.
This position may receive promotion to level five of the 9-1-1 operations career progression after 2 years as Assistant Supervisor pending availability of an open position.

Essential Job Functions
- Maintains all certifications, qualifications and essential functions of the job for previous positions in the 9-1-1 operations career progression to include Telecommunicator I, II & III.
- Operates computer and technical equipment and provides moderate equipment maintenance.
- Interacts daily with general public, government & public agencies, departments and field staff.
- Processes various forms, reports and other department paperwork as required.
- Monitors weather conditions.
- Possesses superior knowledge of geographical areas throughout the County.
- Must become Commonwealth of PA Supervisor certified and pass the Cumberland County Supervisor examination.
- Remains updated on all applicable policies, procedures and regulations regarding emergency services and related areas.
- Must obtain and maintain any emergency management training or certifications as required by the Commonwealth of PA or Cumberland County to include:
- ICS - 300; Intermediate Incident Command System
- ICS - 400; Advanced Incident Command System
- IS - 120; An Introduction to Exercises
- IS - 235; Emergency Planning
- IS - 271; Anticipating Hazardous Weather & Community Risk
- ED-Q; Quality Assurance Certification for EMD, EFD & EPD
- Attends 9-1-1 Ops meetings as available.
- Assists the Supervisor with investigations of complaints.
- Forwards recognition recommendations to the Supervisor.
- Acts as primary trainer on shift.
- Performs dispatcher QA on minimum of 2% of calls received by ECC.
- Assists with maintaining radio discipline by dispatchers.
- Ability to make sound and quick decisions when dealing with complex issues.
- Attend training, seminars, in-services as required.
- Assists in keeping office neat and orderly.
- Performs other job-related duties as required.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Additional training in computers and emergency medical services/police services /fire services is desired.
- Four years as a 911 telecommunicator/dispatcher is required.
Salary : $64,000 - $68,000
